Vehicles with Rear View Camera

If you are not in the Camera & Parking menu and an obstacle is detected in the vehicle path, a popup window appears in the driver's display:

  • Vehicles without Active Parking Assist: when driving no faster than 8 mph (12 km/h)
  • Vehicles with Active Parking Assist: when driving no faster than 11 mph (18 km/h)

Optionally, obstacles detected by Parking Assist PARKTRONIC from approximately 3.3 ft (1 m) in front and 2.2 ft (0.7 m) on the sides can also be displayed in the head-up display.

System Limits

Parking Assist PARKTRONIC may not detect:

  • Obstacles below the detection range (persons, animals, objects)
  • Obstacles above the detection range (overhanging loads, ramps)
  • Pedestrians or animals approaching from the side
  • Objects placed next to the vehicle

Obstacles on the sides are not shown in situations like:

  • Parking and switching off the vehicle
  • Opening doors

After restarting the engine, obstacles must be detected again by driving past them for a new warning. Also observe the system limits of:

  • Rear view camera
  • Surround view camera

Problems with Parking Assist PARKTRONIC

If the display lights up red for ~3 seconds then goes out, and a symbol appears in the driver's display, the system may have been deactivated due to signal interference. Restart the vehicle and check the system at a different location.

If a warning tone sounds, possible causes:

  • Dirty sensors – clean them and follow care instructions
  • System deactivated due to malfunction – restart vehicle or consult a specialist

Activating/Deactivating Parking Assist PARKTRONIC

NOTE: Risk of accident from objects at close range. Pay attention to objects above/below sensors.

  • Requirements:
    • Camera menu open
    • Active Parking Assist active
    • PARKTRONIC popup appears
  • Press in the central display. Indicator lamp lit = active; symbol in instrument cluster = inactive
  • Automatically activated when vehicle starts; can also be toggled in quick access menu

Setting Warning Tones

Multimedia system:

  • Settings > Assistance > Parking
  • Volume or pitch: Set under Volume or Tone Pitch
  • Audio fadeout: reduces media volume during warning tone
  • Time of warning: set desired warning time

Active Parking Assist

Active Parking Assist is an electronic parking assistance system using ultrasound and rear/surround view cameras. Up to 22 mph (35 km/h), it measures parking spaces automatically.

Functions

  • Vehicles with rear view camera:
    • Parallel parking
    • Backing into perpendicular spaces
  • Vehicles with surround view camera:
    • Parallel parking
    • Perpendicular parking (forwards or reverse)
    • Detect spaces only marked at roadside
    • Exiting parallel or perpendicular spaces (left/right optional)
