Trunk Lid Operation

Opening the Trunk Lid
  • Pull trunk lid remote operating switch 1.
  • Press and hold the button on the SmartKey.
  • If the trunk lid is stopped in an intermediate position, pull it upwards. Release it as soon as it begins to open.
  • With the trunk lid opening height restriction activated, manually pull the stopped trunk lid upwards.
  • % Obstacle detection will stop the lid. Automatic detection is an aid, not a substitute for attentiveness.
Closing the Trunk Lid

WARNING: Risk of injury from unsecured items in the vehicle. Always stow and secure objects, luggage, or loads against slipping or tipping over.

Observe notes on loading the vehicle. Notes on closing the trunk lid: your vehicle has automatic SmartKey recognition. If a SmartKey belonging to the vehicle is detected inside, the trunk lid will pop open again.

  • Ensure at least one SmartKey is outside the vehicle before locking.
  • Pull the trunk lid downwards using the handle recess and push it closed.
Vehicles with Trunk Lid Convenience Closing

WARNING: Risk of becoming trapped. Make sure nobody is in the closing area.

  • Stop closing by: pressing the SmartKey button, remote switch on driver's door, closing/locking button on trunk lid, or pulling the trunk lid handle.
  • Vehicles with HANDS-FREE ACCESS: stop closing by making a kicking movement below the rear bumper.
  • Push or pull the trunk lid in intermediate positions to continue closing.
  • Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO: press locking button on trunk lid to close and lock if SmartKey is outside.
Vehicles with HANDS-FREE ACCESS
  • Open, close, or interrupt trunk lid movement by a kicking movement under the rear bumper.
  • Warning tone sounds during opening/closing.
  • WARNING: Risk of burns from hot exhaust system. Always make the kicking movement within sensor range.
  • NOTE: Deactivate SmartKey or keep it at least 10 ft (3 m) away during car wash or high-pressure cleaning.
  • Stand firmly on the ground while making the kicking movement. Stay at least 12 in (30 cm) away from the vehicle, avoid bumper contact, perform the movement briskly towards the vehicle and back.
Trunk Lid Automatic Reversing Function

Obstacle detection with reversing function automatically opens the trunk lid if obstructed during closing. It is an aid, not a substitute for attentiveness.

WARNING: Reversing function will not react to soft/light objects or at the end of closing. Ensure no body parts are in the closing area.

  • If someone is trapped, use SmartKey, remote switch, closing/locking button, or pull the trunk lid handle to stop.
System Limits
  • Impairment if sensors are dirty, e.g., road salt or snow.
  • Impairment if kicking movement uses a prosthetic leg.
