Fastening and Adjusting Seat Belts
If the seat belt is pulled quickly or sharply, the retractor locks. The seat belt strap cannot be pulled out any further.
- Always engage seat belt tongue 2 into seat belt buckle 1 of the corresponding seat.
- Press and hold the seat belt outlet release and slide seat belt outlet 3 into the desired position.
- Let go of the release and ensure that the seat belt outlet 3 locks into position.
A seat belt only provides optimal protection if worn correctly. Observe the notes on fastening the seat belt.
Note: Deployment of components of the restraint system may occur when the front passenger seat is unoccupied and a seat belt is buckled.
- Only buckle the seat belts as intended.
- Observe notes on correct fastening and stowage options.
Child Restraint Systems
Warning: Risk of injury or death if the co-driver airbag is enabled. Never use a rearward-facing child restraint on a seat with an enabled front airbag.
When installing a child restraint on the front passenger seat, follow vehicle-specific instructions. Always observe notes for rearward- or forward-facing child restraints.
Automatic Front Passenger Airbag Shutoff
The front passenger airbag deploys only if the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator lamp is off. Ensure the status is correct before and during the journey.
Note: Components of the restraint system may deploy unnecessarily if the front passenger seat is unoccupied and the seat belt tongue is engaged.
- Store objects in a suitable place.
- Only one person should use each seat belt at a time.
Protective Capacity of Airbags
Depending on the accident situation, airbags may supplement the protection of correctly fastened seat belts.
Warning: Risk of injury or death due to incorrect seat position. Maintain a proper distance from airbags and fasten seat belts correctly.
- Fasten seat belts correctly, ensuring lap belt placement for pregnant women.
- Adopt correct seat position; stay as far as possible from airbags.
- Keep no objects between airbag and occupants.
- Keep feet on the floor; avoid leaning forward or against doors.
- Observe notes for children traveling in the vehicle.
- Secure all objects properly; do not block deployment area.
Warning: Risk of injury due to modifications to airbag cover or using unsuitable seat covers. Never modify the cover or affix objects to it. Use only approved seat covers.
Warning: Risk of injury due to malfunctioning sensors in doors. Never modify doors or door parts; always use a qualified specialist workshop.
Warning: Risk of injury due to deployed airbags. Have deployed airbags replaced immediately at a qualified specialist workshop.
Seat Belt Adjustment Function (PRE-SAFE®)
Vehicles with PRE-SAFE® may automatically tighten the front seat belt after fastening. Do not hold the seat belt tightly while adjustment is in progress. The function can be activated/deactivated via the multimedia system.
- Multimedia system path: Settings → Vehicle → Occupant Protection → Activate/Deactivate Belt Adjustment.
Releasing Seat Belts
- Press the release button in the seat belt buckle.
- Guide the seat belt back with the seat belt tongue.
Seat Belt Warning Function
The seat belt warning lamp in the driver’s display reminds that all occupants must wear seat belts correctly. It lights for six seconds at vehicle start; a warning tone may sound.
The warning continues if:
- Vehicle speed exceeds 15 mph (25 km/h) and seat belts are not fastened.
- The driver or front passenger unfastens seat belt while the vehicle is in motion.
