Parking, Garage Door Opener, and Electric Parking Brake
Parking the Vehicle
Bring the vehicle to a standstill by pressing the brake pedal.
On gradients, turn the front wheels so that the vehicle will roll towards the curb if it starts moving.
Apply the electric parking brake.
Engage transmission position j in a stationary vehicle with the brake pedal applied.
Switch off the vehicle by pressing button 1.
Release the service brake slowly.
Get out of the vehicle and lock it.
% When parked, side windows and sliding sunroof can be operated for ~4 minutes if the driver's door is closed.
Garage Door Opener
& DANGER Risk of death from exhaust gases: Combustion engines emit poisonous gases like CO. Never leave engine or auxiliary heater running in enclosed spaces without ventilation.
& WARNING Risk of injury from garage door: Ensure no persons are in the range of the door when programming or operating it.
Only operate doors with safety stop/reversing feature or doors conforming to U.S. safety standards.
Requirements:
The vehicle is parked outside the garage or door range.
The vehicle is switched on but not started.
Check remote control transmitter frequency: 280–868 MHz.
Press and hold button 1, 2, or 3 to program. Indicator lamp flashes yellow (may take up to 20 seconds).
Point remote 5 at button 1, 2, or 3 (0.4–3 in / 1–8 cm) and press remote button 6 until:
Indicator lamp lights green = programming complete
Indicator lamp flashes green = programming successful; synchronize rolling code
% Remote control is not included with the garage door opener.
Synchronizing rolling code:
Press programming button on the door drive unit.
Within 30 seconds, press programmed button repeatedly until door closes.
Troubleshooting:
Check transmitter frequency is supported.
Replace remote batteries.
Test remote at various angles/distances (0.4–3 in / 1–8 cm) for ≥25s per position.
Press remote button again before transmission ends if needed.
Opening/closing door: Press and hold programmed button until door opens/closes. If indicator flashes yellow after ~20s, press button again until door responds.
Clearing memory: Press and hold buttons 1 & 3. Indicator lights yellow. If flashing green, release buttons. Memory deleted.
Electric Parking Brake
& WARNING Risk of accident due to unattended children:
Children could open doors, operate equipment, or release parking brake.
Always take SmartKey and lock vehicle.
Keep SmartKey out of children's reach.
Electric parking brake is applied automatically when transmission is in j and:
Vehicle switched off
Seat belt tongue not inserted and driver's door opened
% To prevent automatic application, pull the electric parking brake handle.
It is also applied when:
HOLD function is active
Active Parking Assist keeps vehicle stationary
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC stops vehicle
When applied, red F (USA) or ! (Canada) indicator lights up.
% Not applied automatically if vehicle is switched off via ECO start/stop.
Releasing Electric Parking Brake
Brake releases automatically if:
Driver’s door closed
Vehicle started
Transmission in h or k and accelerator pressed or shifted from j to h/k on level ground
If transmission in k, trunk lid closed
Seat belt tongue inserted in driver seat belt buckle
If seat belt tongue not inserted, release occurs if:
Shifted from j
Previously driven >2 mph (3 km/h)
When released, red F (USA) or ! (Canada) indicator goes out.
