Transmission Positions

  • j: Park position
  • k: Reverse gear
  • i: Neutral
  • h: Drive position

Engaging Reverse Gear (R)

  • Depress the brake pedal and push the DIRECT SELECT lever upwards past the first point of resistance.

Engaging Neutral (N)

  • Depress the brake pedal and push the DIRECT SELECT lever up or down to the first point of resistance.
  • % To shift into neutral i with the vehicle switched on, push the selector lever up or down for several seconds to the first point of resistance.
  • Subsequently releasing the brake pedal allows you to move the vehicle freely, e.g., to push or tow it away.

Keeping Neutral When Vehicle Is Off

  • Depress the brake pedal and engage neutral i when the vehicle is at a standstill.
  • Release the brake pedal.
  • Switch off the vehicle. The "Risk of Vehicle Rolling Away N Activated Manually No Automatic Change to P" message appears on the driver's display.
  • % If you exit the vehicle leaving the SmartKey inside, the automatic transmission remains in neutral i.

Engaging Park Position (P)

  • Observe the notes on parking the vehicle.
  • Depress the brake pedal until the vehicle comes to a standstill.
  • When at a standstill, press button j. The transmission position display shows j when park is engaged.
  • % Depending on the situation, it may take a short time until j is engaged. Always pay attention to the transmission display.

Engaging Drive Position (D)

  • Depress the brake pedal and push the DIRECT SELECT lever down past the first point of resistance.
  • The automatic transmission shifts gears automatically depending on:
    • Selected drive program
    • Accelerator pedal position
    • Driving speed

Manual Gearshifting

  • Manual shifting is possible when the automatic transmission is in drive position h using the steering wheel gearshift paddles.
  • You can activate temporary or permanent manual shifting.
  • Temporary: Pull paddle 1 or 2 to activate manual shifting for a short time. The display shows p and the current gear.
  • Manual Deactivation: Occurs automatically when changing drive program, restarting vehicle, engaging h, or depending on driving style.

Gearshift Recommendation

  • When the gearshift recommendation icon appears, shift to the recommended gear to drive efficiently.

Kickdown

  • Maximum acceleration: depress the accelerator beyond the pressure point. The transmission shifts up to protect the engine from overrev.

Glide Mode Function

  • Glide mode reduces fuel consumption by disconnecting the combustion engine from the drivetrain while it continues to run in neutral.
  • Transmission display h shows in green.
