Mercedes C-Class

Safety Vests

The safety vests are located in the storage compartments in the driver's and front passenger door.

  • Pull out safety vest bag 1 by the loop.
  • Open the safety vest bag and pull out the safety vest.

Washing Instructions

  1. Maximum number of washes
  2. Maximum wash temperature
  3. Do not bleach
  4. Do not iron

The requirements defined by the legal standard are only fulfilled if the safety vest is the correct size and is fully closed.

Replace the safety vest in the following cases:

  • The reflective strips are damaged or dirty
  • The maximum permissible number of washes is exceeded
  • The fluorescence has faded

Warning Triangle

Removing the Warning Triangle

  • Remove warning triangle

Setting up the Warning Triangle

  • Fold side reflectors 1 upwards to form a triangle and attach at the top using upper press-stud 2.
  • Fold legs 3 down and out to the side.

First-Aid Kit (Soft-Sided)

First-aid kit (soft-sided) 1 is on the left or right in the trunk, depending on the vehicle version.

Flat Tire

Notes in the Event of a Flat Tire

& WARNING Risk of accident due to a flat tire: A flat tire severely affects the driving characteristics as well as the steering and braking of the vehicle.

Tires without run-flat characteristics:

  • Do not drive with a flat tire.
  • Change the flat tire immediately with an emergency spare wheel or spare wheel. Alternatively, consult a qualified specialist workshop.

Tires with run-flat characteristics:

  • Observe the information and warning notes on MOExtended tires (run-flat tire).

In the event of a flat tire, the following options are available depending on your vehicle's equipment:

  • Vehicles with MOExtended tires: possible to continue the journey for a short period of time. Observe the notes on MOExtended tires (/ page 303).
  • Vehicles with a TIREFIT kit: repair the tire to continue for a short period of time using the TIREFIT kit.
  • Vehicles with Mercedes me connect: call for breakdown assistance via the overhead control panel in case of breakdown (/ page 270).
  • All vehicles: change the wheel (/ page 346).

% The emergency spare wheel is only available in certain countries.

Notes on MOExtended Tires (Run-Flat Tire)

& WARNING Risk of accident when driving in limp-home mode: When driving in emergency mode the handling characteristics are impaired.

  • Do not exceed the specified maximum speed of the MOExtended tires.
  • Avoid abrupt steering and driving maneuvers as well as driving over obstacles (curbs, potholes, off-road), especially with a loaded vehicle.
  • Stop driving in emergency mode if you notice banging noise, vehicle vibration, smoke, continuous ESP® intervention, or cracks in the tire side walls.
  • After driving in emergency mode, have the rims checked by a qualified specialist workshop.
  • The defective tire must be replaced in every case.

With MOExtended tires (run-flat tires), you can continue driving even with total loss of pressure, but the tire must not show visible damage. MOExtended tires are marked accordingly on the sidewall.

Vehicles with tire pressure loss warning systems may only use MOExtended tires with an activated system. Driving distance possible after pressure loss:

Load Condition Driving Distance Possible in Emergency Mode
Partially laden 50 miles (80 km)
Fully laden 19 miles (30 km)

Observe the maximum speed of 50 mph (80 km/h). If a tire has gone flat and cannot be replaced with MOExtended tire, a standard tire can be used temporarily.

TIREFIT Kit Storage Location

Plug-in hybrid: observe the notes in the Supplement. When delivered from the factory, the TIREFIT kit is located in the trunk. Depending on equipment, placing it under the trunk floor is possible.

Using the TIREFIT Kit

Requirements:

  • Tire sealant bottle
  • TIREFIT sticker
  • Tire inflation compressor
  • Gloves (depending on the vehicle)

You can use TIREFIT tire sealant to seal perforations up to 0.16 in (4 mm) and in outside temperatures down to -4 °F (-20 °C).

& WARNING Risk of accident when using tire sealant: tire sealant may not seal properly if cuts/punctures are larger than allowed, rim is damaged, or tire was driven on very low pressure. Consult a qualified specialist workshop if needed.

& WARNING Risk of injury and poisoning from tire sealant: harmful and causes irritation. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, clothing. Keep away from children.

* NOTE Overheating due to tire inflation compressor running too long: Do not run the compressor for longer than 10 minutes without interruption. Follow manufacturer safety notes.

Follow the instructions to attach TIREFIT stickers, connect hoses, operate the compressor, and inflate the tire safely. After inflation, clean any spilled sealant, stow equipment, and drive cautiously to nearest qualified specialist workshop if needed.

Battery (Vehicle)

Notes on the 12 V Battery

& WARNING Risk of accident due to incorrect work on battery: short circuit can occur, affecting vehicle safety. Always consult a qualified specialist workshop.

  • Use only approved batteries for your vehicle.
  • Do not create sparks or lean over the battery.
  • Wear gloves, apron, and face mask when handling battery or electrolyte.
  • Keep children away.

Starting Assistance and Charging the 12 V Battery

Follow proper procedures for connecting jumper cables, charging, and replacing the battery. Observe polarity, connection order, and safety notes carefully to avoid explosion or fire.

Replacing the 12 V Battery

  • Always replace a faulty battery with one meeting vehicle requirements.
  • Carry over detachable parts from old battery.
  • Deactivate hold function and brake/towing systems as instructed.
  • Use a tow bar and secure the vehicle during transport.

Electrical Fuses

& WARNING Risk of accident and injury due to overloaded lines: replace only with correct amperage fuses approved by Mercedes-Benz.

  • Fuse boxes are located in the engine compartment, cockpit, front passenger footwell, and trunk.
  • Ensure vehicle is off and secured before replacing fuses.
  • Prevent moisture from entering the fuse box.
