Vehicle SmartKey with Panic Alarm

Functions:
  • 1. Opens/closes the trunk lid
  • 2. Unlocks (with embossed surface)
  • 3. Locks
  • 4. Indicator lamp
  • 5. Panic alarm

% If indicator lamp 4 does not light up after pressing the button, the battery is weak or possibly discharged. Replace the battery as soon as possible. Replace the SmartKey battery (see page 65).

SmartKey Locks/Unlocks:
  • Doors
  • Fuel filler flap
  • Trunk lid

If the vehicle is not opened within approximately 40 seconds after unlocking, it locks again. Antitheft protection is armed again.

Do not keep the SmartKey together with electronic devices or metal objects. This can affect the SmartKey's functionality.

Activating/Deactivating Acoustic Locking Verification Signal

Multimedia system: 4 → 5 Settings → 5 Vehicle → 5 Open/Close → Activate or deactivate the Acoustic Lock.

Arming/Disarming the Panic Alarm

Requirements: The vehicle is switched off.

  • To arm: press button 1 for approximately one second. A visual and audible alarm is triggered.
  • To disarm: briefly press button 1 again or press the start/stop button. A SmartKey belonging to the vehicle must be detected in the vehicle.
Changing the Unlocking Settings

Possible unlocking functions of the SmartKey:

  • Central unlocking
  • Unlocking the driver's door and fuel filler flap

To switch between settings: press the buttons simultaneously for approximately six seconds until the indicator lamp flashes twice.

Options if the Unlocking Function for Driver's Door and Fuel Filler Flap is Selected:
  • To unlock the vehicle centrally: press the button twice.
  • Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO: if you touch the inner surface of the door handle on the driver's door, only the driver's door and fuel filler flap are unlocked.
Deactivating/Activating the SmartKey Function

Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO: deactivating the function also deactivates KEYLESS-GO functions.

  • To deactivate: press the button on the SmartKey twice in quick succession. The indicator lamp flashes twice briefly and lights up once.
  • To activate: press any button on the SmartKey. When the vehicle is started with the SmartKey in the marked space of the center console, the function is automatically activated.
Removing/Inserting the Emergency Key
  • Removing: Press release button 1. Emergency key 2 is pushed out slightly. Fully remove emergency key 2.
  • Inserting: Insert emergency key 2 at marking 3 until it engages. You can use emergency key 2 to attach the SmartKey to a key ring.
Replacing the SmartKey Battery

DANGER: Risk of fatal injuries due to swallowing batteries. Keep batteries out of reach of children. Seek medical attention immediately if swallowed.

ENVIRONMENTAL NOTE: Dispose of batteries responsibly at a qualified workshop or collection point.

Requirements: CR 2032 3V cell battery. Mercedes-Benz recommends replacement at a qualified specialist workshop.

  • Remove the emergency key.
  • Press emergency key 2 into the opening until cover 1 opens. Do not hold cover 1 closed.
  • Insert emergency key 2, lift covering 3, and remove it.
  • Tap the SmartKey until battery 4 falls out.
  • Insert new battery with positive pole facing upwards using a lint-free cloth.
  • Ensure battery surface is clean and free of impurities.
  • Insert front tabs of covering 3 and press to close. Ensure it is completely closed.
  • Insert front tabs of cover 1 and press until completely closed.
  • Insert emergency key again.
Problems with the SmartKey / Troubleshooting

You can no longer lock or unlock the vehicle:

  • SmartKey battery is weak or discharged. Check using indicator lamp and replace if necessary.
  • Use replacement SmartKey.
  • Use emergency key to lock/unlock.
  • Have SmartKey checked at a qualified specialist workshop.

Interference from powerful radio signals can impair function: high-voltage power lines, mobile phones, notebooks, tablets, metal objects, or induction loops. Keep sufficient distance.

If a SmartKey is lost, have it deactivated at a qualified specialist workshop. Replace mechanical lock if necessary.

Doors
  • To unlock/open a front door: pull door handle 1.
  • To unlock a rear door: pull rear door handle.
  • To open a rear door: pull the rear door handle again.
