Anti-Theft Protection
Function of the Immobilizer

The immobilizer prevents the vehicle from being started without the correct SmartKey. It is automatically activated when the vehicle is switched off, and deactivated when switched on. Always take the SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Anyone can start the vehicle if a valid SmartKey is left inside.

% If the engine cannot start but the battery is charged, the system is not operational. Contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center or call 1-800-FOR-MERCedes (USA) or 1-800-387-0100 (Canada).

Function of the ATA (Anti-Theft Alarm) System

If the ATA system is armed, a visual and audible alarm is triggered in the following situations:

  • When a door, trunk lid, or hood is opened
  • When the interior motion sensor is triggered
  • When the tow-away alarm is triggered

The ATA system is automatically armed after ~10 seconds when the vehicle is locked using the SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO. Indicator lamp 1 flashes when armed. The system is deactivated automatically after unlocking with the SmartKey, KEYLESS-GO, or pressing the start/stop button with the SmartKey in the marked space.

% If the Mercedes-Benz emergency call system is active and the alarm lasts more than 30 seconds, a message is sent to the Customer Assistance Center. Severe battery discharging will automatically deactivate the system to allow engine start.

Deactivating the ATA
  • Press the Ü, S, or H button on the SmartKey.
  • Press the start/stop button with the SmartKey in the marked space.
Deactivating the Alarm using KEYLESS-GO
  • Grasp the outside door handle with the SmartKey outside the vehicle.
Function of the Tow-Away Alarm

% May not be available in all countries. An audible and visual alarm is triggered if the vehicle’s angle of inclination changes while the alarm is armed. Automatically armed ~60 seconds after locking with the SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO, only if doors and trunk lid are closed.

Deactivation occurs after:

  • Pressing the Ü or H button on the SmartKey
  • Pressing start/stop button with SmartKey in marked space
  • Unlocking the vehicle using KEYLESS-GO or HANDS-FREE ACCESS
Arming/Disarming the Tow-Away Alarm
  • Multimedia: 4 → 5 Settings → 5 Vehicle → 5 Opening/Closing → 5 Vehicle Protection → Arm/Disarm Tow-away Protection
  • Alarm is re-armed if vehicle is unlocked, a door is opened, or vehicle is locked again
Function of the Interior Motion Sensor

% May not be available in all countries. When activated, a visual and audible alarm is triggered if movement is detected inside the vehicle. Automatically activated ~10 seconds after locking with SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO. Activated only when doors and trunk lid are closed.

Deactivation occurs after pressing the Ü or H button on the SmartKey, pressing start/stop button with SmartKey in marked space, unlocking the vehicle using KEYLESS-GO, or using HANDS-FREE ACCESS.
