Traffic Sign Assist
1. Permissible speed
2. Permissible speed when there is a restriction
3. Additional sign with restriction
The system can show up to two traffic signs in the driver display simultaneously. Speed limits are always prioritized. Up to one traffic sign with a maximum permissible speed can be shown in the Head-up Display. If two speed signs are shown in the driver display, the left-hand speed limit value is transmitted to the limiter, cruise control, or Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and shown in the Head-up Display.
Examples of detectable traffic signs
- Speed limits
- End of speed limit
- Overtaking restrictions
- Play streets
- Recommended speeds
Additional signs
- Wet road
- Slippery road surfaces
- Fog
- Temporary restrictions
- Exits
- Restrictions for vehicle/trailer combinations
Traffic Sign Assist also uses data from the navigation system’s digital map for updates when leaving/entering municipalities, changing roads, or turning.
If the system cannot determine the current maximum permissible speed, a display informs the driver. In unsupported countries, the display shows this continuously.
Warning when exceeding speed limit
The system can warn if the maximum permissible speed is exceeded. Warning type can be set in the multimedia system:
- Visual only: traffic sign flashes three times in driver display
- Visual & acoustic: flashing plus warning tone
Additional functions (country-specific)
- No-entry signs warning
- Pedestrian crossing warning (up to 44 mph / 70 km/h)
- Stop sign warning (up to 44 mph / 70 km/h)
- Red light warning (up to 44 mph / 70 km/h)
- All detected lights are red
- At least one red light on front passenger side

System limits
- Poor visibility (shade, rain, snow, fog, dust, spray)
