Locking and Unlocking the Vehicle
Using the Buttons
- To unlock: press button 1.
- To lock: press button 2.
- The red indicator lamp on button 2 lights up once the vehicle is locked.
- % The buttons are also on the front passenger and rear doors. This does not lock or unlock the fuel filler flap.
Vehicle Not Unlocked
- If you have locked the vehicle using the SmartKey
- If you have locked the vehicle using KEYLESS-GO
Locking/Unlocking with KEYLESS-GO
Requirements:
- The SmartKey is outside the vehicle.
- The distance between the SmartKey and the vehicle does not exceed 3 ft (1 m).
- The driver's door and the door on which the door handle is used are closed.
NOTE: Damage to the vehicle caused by unintentionally opening the trunk lid when using an automatic car wash or a high pressure cleaner. Deactivate the function of the SmartKey or keep it at least 10 ft (3 m) away.
Observe notes: on washing the vehicle in a car wash or using a high-pressure cleaner.
Using the Door Handles
- To unlock the vehicle: touch the inner surface of the door handle.
- To lock the vehicle: touch sensor surface 1 or 2.
- Convenience closing: touch recessed sensor surface 2 for an extended period. Further information on convenience closing (see page 79).
KEYLESS-GO Troubleshooting
You can no longer lock or unlock the vehicle using KEYLESS-GO:
- The function of the SmartKey has been deactivated.
- The SmartKey battery is weak or discharged.
Steps to resolve:
- Activate the function of the SmartKey (see page 64).
- Check the battery using the indicator lamp (see page 63).
- Replace the SmartKey battery, if necessary (see page 65).
- Use the replacement SmartKey.
- Use the emergency key to lock or unlock (see page 70).
- Have the vehicle and SmartKey checked at a qualified specialist workshop.
Interference from powerful radio signals can impair KEYLESS-GO: high voltage power lines, mobile phones, notebooks, tablets, shielding by metal objects, induction loops. Keep sufficient distance.
Activating/Deactivating Automatic Locking
Multimedia system: 4 → 5 Settings → 5 Vehicle → 5 Locking Function. The vehicle is locked automatically when switched on and wheels are turning faster than walking pace.
Switch Automatic Door Lock on or off. Risk of being locked out if the vehicle is towed, pushed, or tested on a roller dynamometer.
