Tesla Cybertruck 2025-2026 Using Wheel Chocks

Using Wheel Chocks

  1. One person presses and holds the brake pedal.
  2. A second person places wheel chocks under the wheels on the downgrade side of the trailer's tires.
  3. Slowly release the brake pedal to ensure the chocks hold the weight of the vehicle and trailer.
  4. Place the vehicle in Park.

NOTE: When testing chocks, ensure Vehicle Hold is engaged. Indicator appears on the touchscreen when active. To disengage, press and release the brake pedal.

WARNING: When parking on a grade, ensure all trailer wheels are securely chocked to avoid serious damage, injury, or death.

Trailer Sway Mitigation

The electronic stability control system applies braking to minimize trailer sway. The touchscreen briefly displays the traction control system indicator.

Manual braking does not cancel automatic trailer sway mitigation. Drive carefully and brake when needed.

Accessing the Trailer Hitch Assembly

Located behind the rear fascia under the tailgate. The ball mount is purchased separately. Remove trailer hitch cover using a flat trim tool or non-marring screwdriver and keep it in a secure place. Maximum rear overhang for coupling: 49 in (1.25 m) from center of rear tire. Always attach safety chains when towing.

Ball Mount Specifications

Cybertruck hitch receiver supports a 2 in (5 cm) ball mount. Follow manufacturer instructions for maintenance.

Towing a Trailer - Electrical Connections

Cybertruck provides a combination electrical outlet near the hitch:

  • 7-PIN SAE J2863: For trailers with braking system
  • 4-PIN SAE J1239: For light trailers requiring lights only

Regulations require taillights and turn signals; use 4-pin for light loads, 7-pin for heavy loads with brakes. Connecting trailer wiring automatically enables Trailer Mode.

CAUTION: Ensure trailer cable does not drag on the ground and has enough slack.
WARNING: Verify all electrical connections and braking system before towing. Use only Tesla-designed electrical connections. Failure may cause damage, injury, or death.

Impact on Range

Towing increases weight and drag, reducing driving range. Trip Planner adjusts estimates, but actual energy consumption may vary. Plan trips and charging accordingly.

Carrying Accessories

Tesla assumes no responsibility for damage or injury from accessory use. Maximum tongue weight: 1,100 lbs (500 kg). Weight decreases if center of gravity is farther from hitch. Mount heavier items closer to hitch pin.

Install accessory carriers according to instructions. Cybertruck includes wiring for accessory lights and Trailer Mode software. Ensure carrier and cargo remain secure; check lights periodically.

Installing Brackets onto the Appliques

Cross bar kit includes 8 appliques:

  1. Open applique doors where brackets will be installed.
  2. Use torque wrench to remove nuts from threaded studs in applique doors.
  3. Position bracket with raised arrow outward and align with studs.
  4. Reinstall and tighten nuts removed in step 2.

NOTE: Appliques are available on the Tesla Shop.
