Accessing the Cargo Bed
When parked, use these exterior switches:
- Tonneau Open: Fully press and release to open the tonneau cover. Press again to pause. Partially open by pressing lightly.
- Tonneau Close: Fully press and release to close the tonneau cover. Press again to pause. Partially close by pressing lightly.
- Tailgate Open: Press to release the tailgate latch. Integrated struts prevent forceful drop.
Note: If the tonneau cover does not open/close fully, it may need calibration. You can still partially open/close. The mobile app or touchscreen (Controls > Tonneau) can also operate the cover.
CAUTION: Do not drop objects on the tonneau cover or place items that can fall off or enter the tracks. Debris may damage the cover.
WARNING: Keep hands and objects away from tonneau cover tracks and tailgate hinges when closing.
Troubleshooting the Tonneau Cover
The tonneau cover may not operate if:
- Cybertruck is locked or not in Park.
- Obstacle blocks the cover (remove and retry).
- No low voltage power (open powered frunk before jump-starting).
Note: The cover locks when Walk-Away Door Lock is enabled. Always verify closure before leaving the vehicle.
If still malfunctioning, try:
- Ensure vehicle is unlocked and in Park.
- Wait several minutes, then retry.
- Inspect tracks for debris.
- Calibrate the cover via touchscreen or manually:
- Touch Calibrate on touchscreen and follow instructions.
- Or manually: Press and hold Open until fully open and stalled; press and hold Close until fully closed and stalled.
If problems persist, schedule a Service appointment.
Tailgate Emergency Release
An interior release inside the tailgate allows opening if someone is trapped in the cargo bed. Flip the cover upward and pull the strap firmly.
WARNING: Never have people inside the cargo bed while the vehicle is moving. Do not shut the tailgate with someone inside.
Under Bed Compartment
To open:
- Open the tailgate.
- Grasp handle and flip the cover fully upward. Integrated struts hold it open.
Drain plug allows storing water/ice. Turn counter-clockwise to open and re-install after draining. Close by pushing fully downward until latched.
CAUTION: Ensure lid is properly closed. Do not load more than 220 lb (100 kg) in under bed compartment.
Securing Cargo
Options include:
- Two L-track rails along cargo bed sides for standard fittings.
- Four tie-down anchors at bottom corners.
- Eight attachment points above cab and on cargo bed rails for accessory racks.
CAUTION: Do not use anchors/L-tracks for towing. Maximum force between anchors: 707 lb (320 kg). Ensure cargo is evenly distributed and secured to prevent shifting or falling.
