Tesla Cybertruck 2025-2026 Adjusting the Following Distance

Adjusting the Following Distance

To adjust the following distance between Cybertruck and the vehicle ahead, touch Controls > Autopilot and customize the Cruise Follow Distance, or use the right scroll button on the steering wheel. The closest following distance is 2. Each setting represents a time-based distance to the rear bumper of the vehicle ahead. The touchscreen displays the current setting.

Stopping and Slowdowns

Cybertruck automatically reduces speed when moving faster than vehicles in adjacent lanes. Detected slower vehicles and lane conditions are highlighted on the touchscreen. Press the accelerator to temporarily override this feature.

Traffic-Aware Cruise Control

Traffic-Aware Cruise Control remains active at low speeds, including full stops in heavy traffic. The system may enter a HOLD state when:

  • Cybertruck is stopped for 5 minutes.
  • A pedestrian is detected.
  • The vehicle in front is not visible.
  • An obstacle is detected in front of Cybertruck.

The HOLD icon and message appear on the touchscreen. Press the accelerator to resume cruising.

Cruising Near or On Exits

When approaching an off-ramp and using the turn signal, Traffic-Aware Cruise Control slows Cybertruck to exit. If you stay on the highway, it resumes set speed. Speed may adjust in 5 mph (5 km/h) increments to match local Tesla traffic data. Override by pressing the accelerator.

Overtake Acceleration

Momentarily engaging the turn signal accelerates Cybertruck up to the set speed, provided:

  • Traffic-Aware Cruise Control detects a vehicle ahead.
  • No obstacles are detected in the target lane.
  • Speed is below set speed and above 45 mph (72 km/h).

Acceleration stops when set speed is reached, lane change is too slow, vehicle ahead is too close, or turn signal is disengaged.

Stop Light and Stop Sign Warning

Cybertruck warns visually and audibly if likely to run a red light or stop sign. Press the brake to cancel warnings. This feature provides warnings only; it does not stop the vehicle automatically.

Canceling Traffic-Aware Cruise Control

Traffic-Aware Cruise Control cancels when:

  • Right scroll button is pressed
  • Brake pedal is pressed
  • Speed exceeds 85 mph (140 km/h)
  • Shift into Reverse, Park, or Neutral
  • A door opens
  • Automatic Emergency Braking occurs
  • Driver leaves seat or unbuckles seatbelt

Upon cancellation, the cruising speed icon turns gray and Cybertruck slows via regenerative braking.

Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control (Beta)

This feature uses forward-facing cameras and GPS to slow Cybertruck for traffic lights and stop signs while using Traffic-Aware Cruise Control or Full Self-Driving (Supervised). You must briefly press the accelerator to proceed through green lights. Cybertruck may stop at green lights if conditions require.

WARNING: Always pay attention to intersections. Never assume Cybertruck can see all traffic lights, stop signs, or road markings. Always be ready to brake or accelerate manually. Misuse can result in injury or death.
