Tesla Cybertruck 2025-2026 Tire Chains

Tire Chains

Tesla has tested and approved the following tire chains to increase traction in snowy conditions. Install tire chains on rear tires only. You can purchase these tire chains from Tesla or other distributors.

CAUTION: Remove wheel covers before installing tire chains. Failure to do so may cause damage not covered by warranty.

Recommended Chains by Tire Size

Tire Size Recommended Chain
18", 20" König XD-16 Pro size 285

Tesla recommends the 285 König XD-16 Pro chains to match Cybertruck tires.

Using Tire Chains

  • Inspect chains for loose fittings and damaged links before use.
  • Set air suspension to Medium and turn off Preferred Ride Height to Low (if equipped).
  • Avoid heavily loading Cybertruck to maintain clearance between tires and body.
  • Do not drive without properly installed chains.
  • Drive slowly, maximum 30 mph (48 km/h).
  • Remove chains when conditions allow.

NOTE: Tire chains are prohibited in some jurisdictions. Check local laws.

Chain Safety Warnings

  • CAUTION: Using non-recommended chains or on different tire sizes can damage suspension, body, wheels, or brake lines.
  • CAUTION: Never deflate tires to install chains.
  • CAUTION: Install chains on rear tires only.
  • CAUTION: Ensure chains do not contact suspension components or brake lines. Stop if unusual noises occur.

Removing and Installing Wheel Covers

Remove wheel covers to access valve stems and lug nuts.

To Remove a Wheel Cover

  1. Grasp the cover firmly with both hands.
  2. Pull the cover toward you to release retaining clips.

NOTE: Ensure mounting ring is removed with cover.

To Install a Wheel Cover

  1. Separate mounting ring from cover by pulling the plastic ring from inside.
  2. Align mounting ring with wheel spokes and press firmly into place.
  3. Firmly press the center and then outer perimeter of spokes.
  4. Quickly pull each spoke to confirm secure fit.

CAUTION: Ensure fully secured before driving.

Understanding Tire Markings

Tire sidewalls include information identifying characteristics, certification, and recall info. Tesla-approved tires have a "T-mark" on the sidewall (T0, T1, T2).

  1. Tire category: P (passenger), LT (light truck), or None (hard metric).
  2. Tire width: 3-digit width in mm.
  3. Aspect ratio: sidewall height as a % of tread width.
  4. Construction: R = radial ply.
  5. Wheel diameter: in inches.
  6. Load index: weight each tire supports.
  7. Speed rating: max speed for extended use (Q=99 mph, R=106 mph, etc.).
  8. Seasonal type: e.g., M+S for mud/snow.
  9. Tire composition: number of plies and material type.
  10. Load range: weight supported at specified pressure.
  11. Maximum tire load.
  12. Max permissible inflation pressure (not for normal driving).
  13. U.S. DOT TIN: identifies tire manufacturer and week/year.
  14. Treadwear grade: higher number = longer tread life.
  15. Traction grade: AA, A, B, C for stopping on wet roads.
  16. Temperature grade: tire heat resistance.
