Tesla Cybertruck 2025-2026 Charging Alerts and Notes

Charging Alerts and Notes

If the charge port light turns red while charging, there is an issue with charging. Check the touchscreen for an alert describing the issue. An issue can occur due to something as common as a power outage. If a power outage occurs, charging resumes automatically when power is restored.

NOTE: Cybertruck cannot charge from Gen 1 Wall Connectors if the charge current is greater than 48A. If the charge current is incorrectly configured, the Wall Connector lights flash red eight times. More info: Tesla Gen 1 Wall Connector guide.

NOTE: The thermal system may produce water vapor while charging, particularly at Superchargers in cold temperatures. Sounds from the refrigerant compressor and fan are normal.

NOTE: Air conditioning performance is generally not affected, though on high current days, vent air may be less cool temporarily. This ensures Battery temperature stays optimal.

WARNING: Never spray high-velocity liquid (e.g., pressure washer) at the charge port while charging. Do not use third-party charging adapters with Cybertruck.

CAUTION: Keep the cargo bed outlet cover closed while charging, especially in wet weather. Moisture can disable charging.

Charging Status

The touchscreen displays charging status at the top of the vehicle status area when the charge port door is open:

  1. Charge limit: The capacity at which Cybertruck stops charging. Adjust under Controls > Charging.
  2. Time remaining: Estimated time to reach your set limit or next destination.
  3. Range: Estimated driving distance or energy percentage. Change units via Controls > Display > Energy Display.
  4. Charging power: Current power being provided by the charger.
  5. Charging rate: Speed of charging (range gained per hour).
  6. Range gained: Estimated increase in driving distance for the session.

Charge Port Light

Shows charging status above the charge port. Blinks green when charging starts, amber/red indicates troubleshooting needed.

  • WHITE: Charge port door open; connector not inserted or ready to remove.
  • BLUE, BLINKING: Communicating with charger; charging not started.
  • BLUE: Charger connected, not charging (e.g., scheduled charging).
  • GREEN, BLINKING: Charging; blinking slows near full charge. Or providing power via Powershare.
  • GREEN, SOLID: Charging complete.
  • AMBER, BLINKING: Reduced current; connector not fully plugged in.
  • AMBER, SOLID: Not charging; realign connector and insert fully.
  • RED: Fault detected; check touchscreen for alert. Try unplugging and reconnecting or a different charger if persistent.

Stopping Charging

NACS charge cable:

  1. Unlock Cybertruck; charge cable latch remains locked while vehicle is locked.
  2. Stop charging via button on cable, touchscreen, or mobile app.
  3. Press and hold connector button to release latch.
  4. Remove connector; charge port door closes automatically.

Adapter/AC public station:

  1. Stop charging via touchscreen, app, or station screen.
  2. Unlock Cybertruck.
  3. Hold charging handle and adapter, pull simultaneously to remove both.
  4. If handle separates from adapter, unlock port via touchscreen.
  5. Press and hold handle button to release adapter.

If charge cable is frozen, use Controls > Service > Charge Port Heater (heats for up to 2 hours). Scheduling can also stop charging automatically at a set time (see Create a Schedule, page 192).

Charge Settings

Access via Controls > Charging in Park or Battery icon on touchscreen:

  1. Energy available: Remaining energy in high voltage Battery. Show as distance via Controls > Display > Energy Display.
  2. Set charge limit: Adjust slider for current and scheduled sessions. Blue portion indicates temporarily unavailable energy due to cold Battery.

Set Charge Limit at this Location: Cybertruck remembers location-specific limits and applies Default Charge Limit for regular usage.

Open/Unlock Charge Port: Opens door or unlocks cable when not charging.

Stop Charging: Finish charging safely.

Charge Current at this Location: Sets automatically to max available from cable, adjustable with -/+ buttons. Cybertruck remembers location-specific settings.

NOTE: Mobile Connector may auto-select default current; override via settings or app.

Unexpected power fluctuations reduce charging current by 25% automatically. Tesla recommends charging at lower current until issue resolved.

Supercharging

Displays fees, location, start time, and cost estimate. At high-usage Supercharger sites, you may be limited to 80% charge without Trip Planner.

NOTE: Avoid low-power charging (e.g., 120V NEMA 5-15 outlet) as it charges Cybertruck very slowly due to large high voltage Battery.
