Audi A4

Parking and Maneuvering

Introduction

Depending on the vehicle equipment, various parking aids will help you when parking and maneuvering.

Parking Aid

The parking aid plus assists you while parking using audio and visual signals to warn you about objects detected in front of, behind, and next to the vehicle.

The rearview camera shows the area behind the vehicle in the center display. The lines in the rearview camera image help you to park and maneuver.

The peripheral cameras supplement the rearview camera and help you to see various areas around the vehicle while parking and maneuvering.

Rear cross-traffic assist can warn you of approaching cross traffic when driving in reverse or exiting a parking space.

Assisted Parking

Park assist helps you locate suitable parking spaces and assists with parking and exiting them. The system controls the steering movements.

The driver remains responsible for accelerating, braking, and shifting gears and must always monitor the area around the vehicle.

Possible Settings

You can adjust parking aid functions according to your preferences. The available settings depend on the vehicle equipment.

  • Automatic activation
  • Front and rear volume
  • Entertainment fader
  • View
  • Rear cross-traffic assist

Warning

Observe the safety precautions and note the limits of the assist systems, sensors, and cameras.

Tips

Audi recommends practicing parking in a traffic-free location to become familiar with the systems. Practice in good lighting and weather conditions.

Parking Aid Plus

Applies to: vehicles with parking aid plus

General Information

The parking aid assists when parking and maneuvering by providing audio and visual warnings if obstacles are detected by ultrasonic sensors.

Activating and Deactivating

Requirement: the vehicle speed must be under approximately 6 mph (10 km/h).

Press the parking aid button in the center console.

Automatic Activation

The system activates automatically when reverse gear is engaged while the engine is running.

If automatic activation is enabled and the vehicle approaches an obstacle while driving forward below 6 mph (10 km/h), the system activates automatically.

MMI path: VEHICLE > Parking aid > Automatic activation

Automatic Deactivation

The parking aid deactivates automatically when driving forward faster than approximately 6 mph (10 km/h).

Note

Keep enough distance from the curb to avoid damage to the rims.

Tips

  • The parking aid can only reactivate automatically after certain conditions are met.
  • The vehicle speed exceeds 6 mph (10 km/h).
  • The ignition is switched off and on again.
  • The parking brake is set and released.
  • The “P” selector lever is engaged and released.

Visual Warnings

Visual warnings in the center display help you identify critical areas and estimate the distance to obstacles.

Red segments indicate obstacles in the vehicle’s path. White segments indicate obstacles outside the path.

When the collision area is reached, obstacles are shown in red. Do not continue driving.

Audio Signals

The closer the vehicle gets to an obstacle, the shorter the time between warning tones.

A continuous tone sounds when an obstacle is less than approximately:

  • 1 foot (0.30 m) in front or behind the vehicle
  • 0.7 feet (0.20 m) at the sides of the vehicle

Do not continue driving forward or in reverse.

Adjusting the Volume

You can adjust the parking aid volume through the MMI or directly in the center display.

MMI path: VEHICLE > Parking aid

  • Front volume – front and side areas
  • Rear volume – rear area
  • Entertainment fader – lowers media volume when active

Error Messages

If a fault message appears, the sensor or speaker may be defective.

Weather conditions or covered sensors may limit functionality. Clean the sensor areas and try again later.

If the problem persists, visit an authorized Audi dealer or service facility immediately.

Warning

  • Always observe system limits and safety precautions.
  • Sensors and cameras have blind spots.
  • Objects, animals, or people may not be detected.
  • Always monitor the surroundings directly.
