Data Privacy

Privacy Notice

You can find information about responsibility for data protection in the MMI. Applies to MMI: Select on the home screen: SETTINGS > General > Legal notes > About Audi connect.

Image Recording

Surrounding Area Monitoring

Applies to: vehicles with surrounding area monitoring.

Some vehicle functions require the vehicle’s path to be detected and evaluated. Cameras permanently installed on the vehicle detect objects in the surroundings (e.g., obstacles or guard rails). Live images from the cameras are transmitted to the applicable control module.

The camera images are processed by the control module using image evaluation software, which detects anonymized technical measurements, such as distances to objects. This allows assist systems to control the vehicle as needed.

Data Memories

Vehicle Control Modules

Your vehicle is equipped with electronic control modules for various systems (such as airbags). These modules store data while driving that is required by an authorized Audi dealer or Service Facility for diagnosis and repair. Only certain types of data are recorded for a very short period if a system event is detected. No noises, conversations, or images are recorded.

Stored data may include vehicle speed, direction of travel, brake system information, and restraint system behavior during an accident. The data can be exported and downloaded using special devices directly connected to the vehicle.

On Board Diagnostic System (OBD)

There is a diagnostic connector socket in the driver’s side footwell to read out control modules and the event data recorder. Data regarding the function and condition of electronic control modules is stored in the event memory. Only an authorized Audi dealer or Service Facility should read or delete the event memory.

Warning: Incorrect use of the OBD connection port can cause malfunctions, leading to accidents or serious injuries. Only authorized personnel should access motor data.

Event Data Recorder (EDR)

This vehicle is equipped with an EDR to record data in crash or near-crash situations (e.g., airbag deployment or hitting an obstacle). The EDR records vehicle dynamics and safety system data for a short period (typically ≤30 seconds).

EDR data includes:

  • Operation of various vehicle systems
  • Driver and passenger seatbelt usage
  • Accelerator and brake pedal usage
  • Vehicle speed

EDR data is recorded only during significant crash situations; no personal data (name, gender, age, crash location) is recorded under normal driving conditions. Law enforcement may combine EDR data with personally identifying data acquired during a crash investigation.

Special equipment and vehicle access are required to read EDR data. Authorized Audi dealers and other parties (e.g., law enforcement) may access this data if they have the necessary equipment and vehicle access.

Data Usage

Audi can read data stored in the vehicle's modules or provide it to third parties in the following situations:

  • With vehicle owner or lessee consent
  • Official police requests
  • Court or authority requests

If legally permitted, Audi may also analyze data for vehicle operation and safety research or provide it to third parties for research purposes.

Transmitted Information

Data Collection

Applies to: vehicles with data collection

Depending on the country, Audi may collect data for purposes such as product optimization, public safety, Audi connect remote services, and adaptation to customer needs. Technical function data, environmental data, driving data, and usage data may be collected and sent from the vehicle at the time of collection.

Applies to MMI: Additional information about data collection can be found in MMI: SETTINGS > General > Legal notes > About Audi connect. To deny data transmission, contact an authorized Audi dealer or Service Facility or deactivate data transmission within privacy settings.

Privacy Settings

Applies to: vehicles with Audi connect

  • MMI: SETTINGS > Privacy settings
  • To display additional information about privacy settings and status bar symbols, press @ in the MMI. Ignition must be on.

Setting Maximum Privacy Settings

When Activate privacy mode is on, data connection is deactivated or restricted, but all safety-related, legal, or contractually required Audi connect services remain active. Most Audi connect services are deactivated.

When the function is off, the data connection is available to use Audi connect services. After switching off, check individual data settings.
