Driving in Other Countries

Government regulations in the United States and Canada require vehicles to comply with emissions regulations and safety standards. Vehicles produced for the U.S. and Canadian markets may differ from vehicles produced for other countries.

If you plan to use your vehicle outside the U.S. or Canada, note that:

  • Fuel may have a lower octane rating, which can cause engine damage.
  • Proper maintenance and repair work may not be possible due to lack of special tools and equipment.
  • Replacement parts may not always be available.
  • Navigation systems designed for the U.S. and Canada may not work in Europe or other countries.

Note: Audi is not liable for damage resulting from these country-specific differences.

Maintenance, Repairs, and Technical Modifications

Observe the safety precautions: General information (p. 222) and Raising the vehicle (p. 268).

General Information

Due to the increasing complexity of vehicle technology and safety/environmental standards, only a very limited amount of repairs and modifications can be performed by the owner. Proof of maintenance work may be required for warranty claims.

We recommend servicing your vehicle at an authorized Audi dealer or Service Facility using Audi Genuine Parts and Accessories to ensure optimal performance, functionality, and safety.

Maintenance and Repairs

Your vehicle is designed to minimize maintenance requirements. Regular maintenance ensures safe, economical, and reliable operation. Refer to the Warranty & Maintenance Booklet for detailed information.

Extreme operating conditions, such as very low temperatures or dusty environments, may require maintenance between specified intervals.

Maintenance and repair work typically requires special tools and equipment available to trained technicians. Improper work can impair vehicle operation, reliability, and may void warranties.

Technical Modifications

Interfering with electronic components, software, wiring, or data transfer can cause malfunctions and affect systems not directly involved, reducing operational safety and increasing component wear.

Some convenience functions (e.g., turn signals, door opening, displays) can be reprogrammed with special workshop equipment. Reprogrammed functions may no longer match the Owner's Manual descriptions. Audi recommends having authorized personnel perform and verify reprogramming.

  • Never perform work in the motor compartment unless you have the correct tools and technical knowledge.
  • If uncertain, have work performed by an authorized Audi dealer, Service Facility, or qualified workshop to avoid serious injury.

Warning: Improper maintenance, repairs, or modifications (including adding equipment) can cause serious injuries or accidents.

Warning: The motor compartment is potentially dangerous and can cause serious personal injury. Always exercise extreme caution, follow safety practices, and use common sense.

Note:

  • Incorrect maintenance, repairs, or modifications can damage the vehicle.
  • The New Vehicle Limited Warranty does not cover damage from failure to follow recommended use and maintenance.
  • Emergency repairs should be performed at an authorized Audi dealer or Service Facility as soon as possible.
  • Audi is not liable for damage resulting from non-compliance with these guidelines.

Environmental Considerations

  • Regular maintenance helps protect the environment.
  • Technical modifications may negatively impact fuel consumption and emissions.
  • Certain components (undeployed airbags, pretensioners, remote control batteries) may contain Perchlorate Material and require special handling. See: www.dtsc.ca.gov/hazardouswaste/perchlorate
  • When scrapping the vehicle or parts of the restraint system, all applicable laws and regulations must be followed.
