If the front or side part of the vehicle is damaged in an accident to the extent that the seatbelt pretensioner does not operate, contact your SUBARU dealer as soon as possible.
Always consult your SUBARU dealer if you want to install any accessory parts to your vehicle.
Do not perform any of the following modifications. Such modifications can interfere with proper operation of the seatbelt pretensioners.
Infants and small children should always be placed in an infant or child restraint system in the rear seat while riding in the vehicle.
Use a child restraint system that meets Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards or Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, is compatible with your vehicle, and is appropriate for the child’s age and size.
All child restraint systems are designed to be secured in vehicle seats using lap belts or the lap portion of a lap/shoulder belt, except systems installed using lower and tether anchorages (LATCH).
Children could be endangered in an accident if their child restraints are not properly secured in the vehicle. Always carefully follow the manufacturer’s instructions when installing the child restraint system.
According to accident statistics, children are safer when properly restrained in the rear seating positions than in the front seating positions.
All U.S. states and Canadian provinces require infants and small children to be restrained in an approved child restraint system at all times while the vehicle is moving.
Never let a passenger hold a child on his or her lap or in their arms while the vehicle is moving. In a collision, the child could be caught between the passenger and objects inside the vehicle, resulting in serious injury.
Holding a child in the front seat is especially dangerous because the SRS airbag deploys with considerable speed and force and may seriously injure or kill the child.
Children should always be properly restrained. Never allow a child to stand up or kneel on any seat. Unrestrained children can be thrown forward during sudden stops or accidents and may be seriously injured.
Children standing or kneeling near the front seat are also exposed to danger from the SRS airbag deployment.
The following are SUBARU’s recommendations for placing a child restraint system in your vehicle:
Installation of a child restraint system (including booster seats) is not recommended due to the hazard posed by the passenger’s airbag.
These are the recommended positions for all types of child restraint systems.
The following equipment is provided for installing a child restraint system:
Some child restraints may not fit firmly due to the seat cushion shape. In such cases, use a child restraint system that fits snugly against the contours of the seat cushion and can be securely retained using the seatbelt.
This position includes an ALR/ELR seatbelt and an upper tether anchorage.
Some child restraint systems may not be secured firmly due to the seat cushion design. Use only a system that fits snugly and can be secured properly using the seatbelt.
When installing a child restraint system in the rear center seat, raise the center head restraint.
Lower anchorages for window-side seating positions may be used for the center seat only if the child restraint manufacturer permits and specifies anchor spacing compatible with this vehicle.
If a child restraint system can move more than 1 inch (2.5 cm) from side to side, install it in a rear window-side seating position instead.
Since your vehicle is equipped with a passenger’s SRS airbag, never install a forward or rearward facing child safety seat in the front passenger’s seat. Doing so risks serious injury or death by placing the child too close to the SRS airbag.
Choose a child restraint system appropriate for the child’s age, weight, and height to provide proper protection.
The system must meet all applicable requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (U.S.) or Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
You can identify compliant systems by checking the label on the child restraint system or the manufacturer’s statement of compliance attached to the product documentation.
Also ensure that the child restraint system is compatible with the vehicle in which it will be used.
