Subaru FORESTER 5th Generation 2019-2024 Remote Engine Start Transmitter Battery Replacement (Models without Keyless Access with Push-Button Start
Remote Engine Start Transmitter Battery Replacement (Models without Keyless Access with Push-Button Start)
The 3-volt lithium battery (CR-2032) in your remote engine start transmitter should last about one year. A weakening battery will reduce the operating range.
- Remove the small Phillips screw on the back of the transmitter.
- Carefully pry the transmitter halves apart with a small flathead screwdriver.
- Remove the circuit board from the bottom half and replace the battery, ensuring the "+" sign is correctly oriented away from the circuit board.
- Snap the case halves back together, reinstall the screw, and test the remote engine start system.
NOTE: This device complies with FCC Part 15 and Industry Canada RSS-210 rules. Modifications not approved by the responsible party may void your authority to operate the device or the warranty.
Manual Transmission
This is a fully synchromesh 6-forward-speed and 1-reverse-speed transmission. The shift pattern is on the shift lever knob.
- Slider: Raise and hold the slider to move the lever to “Râ€.
- To change gears, fully depress the clutch, move the lever, then gradually release the clutch.
- If shifting is difficult, return to neutral, release the clutch briefly, then try again.
WARNING: Do not drive with clutch disengaged or in neutral; engine braking is ineffective. Do not release the clutch suddenly when starting the vehicle.
CAUTION: Shift into reverse only when the vehicle is completely stopped.
Recommended Shifting Speeds
| Shift Up |
Speed (mph / km/h) |
| 1st to 2nd | 15 (24) |
| 2nd to 3rd | 25 (40) |
| 3rd to 4th | 40 (64) |
| 4th to 5th | 45 (72) |
| 5th to 6th | 50 (80) |
Maximum Allowable Speeds
| Gear |
Speed (mph / km/h) |
| 1st | 29 (48) |
| 2nd | 54 (88) |
WARNING: When downshifting, ensure the vehicle speed does not exceed the gear’s maximum. Failure may cause engine over-revving or wheel lock on slippery surfaces.
NOTE: Never exceed posted speed limits.
Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)
Driving Tips:
- Do not depress accelerator and brake simultaneously.
- Avoid resting your foot on the clutch or hand on the shift lever.
- Downshift before slow traffic, corners, or steep hills.
- Use engine braking on downgrades to preserve brakes.
- Engine knocking during rapid acceleration is normal.
The CVT is electronically controlled, providing infinite forward speeds and one reverse speed. Some models have manual or “L†mode.
WARNING: Do not shift from “P†or “N†to “D†or “R†while pressing the accelerator.
CAUTION:
- Shift to “P†or “R†only when stopped.
- Do not race the engine for >5 seconds in any gear except “N†or “P†with brake applied or wheel chocks in place.
- Never move vehicle rearward in a forward gear or forward in “Râ€.
- Avoid shifting between forward gears and “R†until fully stopped.
- Park by applying parking brake first, then place lever in “Pâ€.
NOTE: Check engine coolant and fluid levels regularly.
