Remote Keyless Entry System

Perform steps 1 to 5 described in “Registration”.

NOTE

  • You cannot unlock by PIN Code Access in the following cases:
    • When the access key is within the operating ranges
    • When the ignition switch is in the “ACC” or “ON” position
  • If an operation error occurs, wait at least 5 seconds before retrying.
  • To protect your vehicle from theft, a buzzer sounds if incorrect PIN codes are entered five times consecutively. Doors cannot be unlocked via PIN Code Access for 5 minutes in this case.

Remote Transmitter CAUTION

  • Do not expose the remote transmitter to severe shocks (dropping or throwing).
  • Do not disassemble except when replacing the battery.
  • Do not get the transmitter wet; wipe dry immediately if wet.
  • Do not press buttons while on an airplane; secure in a bag to prevent accidental activation.

Keyless Access Models

For models with push-button start, the access key acts as the remote transmitter. For models without push-button start, the transmitter is inside the key head.

Remote Keyless Entry Functions

  • Locking/unlocking doors and rear gate without a key
  • Unlocking rear gate without a key
  • Panic alarm activation
  • Arming/disarming alarm system (see “Alarm system” F2-25)

The operable distance is ~30 feet (10 meters) but varies based on environment and interference from strong radio waves or electronic equipment.

Access Key / Transmitter Buttons

  1. Lock/arm button
  2. Unlock/disarm button
  3. Rear gate unlock button
  4. PANIC button

Hazard Warning Flashers

The hazard flashers will flash when pressing transmitter buttons for locking, unlocking doors, or unlocking the rear gate. This can be set “On” or “Off” by a SUBARU dealer. Multi-function display models can adjust via the display (see F3-82).

Locking the Doors

Press the lock/arm button to lock all doors and rear gate. Electronic chirp sounds once; hazard flashers flash once.

If doors or rear gate are not fully closed:

  • Electronic chirp sounds five times
  • Hazard flashers flash five times

Closing the door automatically locks it and produces one chirp and one hazard flash.

Unlocking the Doors

Press unlock/disarm button to unlock the driver’s door. Chirp sounds twice; hazard flashers flash twice. Press a second time within 5 seconds to unlock all doors and rear gate.

NOTE: Extremely short interval between presses may prevent system response.

Vehicle Finder Function

Within 30 feet (10 meters), press the lock/arm button three times in 5 seconds to sound horn once and flash hazard lights three times. Press interval too short may prevent response.
