Subaru FORESTER 5th Generation 2019-2024 HomeLink® Wireless Control System

HomeLink® Wireless Control System

The HomeLink® Wireless Control System provides a convenient way to replace up to three hand-held radio-frequency remotes used to activate devices such as gate operators, garage door openers, entry door locks, security systems, and home lighting. Programming videos and additional information are available at www.HomeLink.com and www.youtube.com/HomeLinkGentex.

CAUTION

  • Ensure people and objects are clear of devices before programming.
  • Park outside the garage when programming a garage door opener.
  • Do not use HomeLink with openers lacking safety stop/reverse features.
  • Use a fresh battery in the hand-held remote for quicker training.
  • Some vehicles require ignition ON or ACC for programming.
  • Keep hand-held remotes for other vehicles or future programming.
  • Erase HomeLink buttons for security when selling the vehicle (see F3-113).

Programming a New HomeLink Button

  1. Press and release the desired HomeLink button. The indicator light flashes orange.
  2. Position the hand-held remote 1–3 inches (2–8 cm) from the button. Some may work better at 6–12 inches.
  3. Press and hold the remote button until the HomeLink indicator light turns green, then release.
  4. Press the HomeLink button and check the indicator:
    • Steady green = programming complete.
    • Rapid green flash = press, hold 2 sec, release up to 3 times.
  5. Press the “Learn,” “Smart,” or “Program” button on the garage door motor. Complete step 7 within 30 seconds.
  6. Return to the vehicle and press the HomeLink button up to 3 times. Device should now operate.

Gate Operator / Canadian Programming

For devices with “time-out” signals, cycle the hand-held remote every 2 seconds until the indicator turns green. Then proceed with step 4.

Using HomeLink

Press and release a programmed button to activate the trained device. The hand-held remote may also be used.

Erasing HomeLink Buttons

Press and hold the two outer buttons for 10–20 seconds until LED flashes rapidly. Buttons are now ready for reprogramming.

Reprogramming a Single HomeLink Button

  1. Press and hold the desired button for 20 seconds until indicator flashes orange, then release.
  2. Proceed with “Programming a New HomeLink Button” step 3.

Garage Door Two-Way Communication

HomeLink can receive and display “opening” or “closing” status from compatible garage door openers up to 820 ft (250 m). Programming is enabled if indicators flash rapidly green. Recall last status by pressing buttons 1 and 2 for 2 seconds.

Certification

FCC Part 15 and IC RSS-210 compliant. Follow RF exposure instructions: maintain 20 cm distance from user, do not co-locate with other antennas. HomeLink® and HomeLink House® logo are registered trademarks of Gentex Corporation.

Outside Mirrors

Convex Mirror (Passenger Side)

Objects appear smaller and farther than reality. Use inside mirror or glance backward to judge distance when changing lanes.

Remote Control Mirror Switch

Operates only when ignition is ON or ACC.

  1. Select left (L) or right (R) mirror.
  2. Move control switch in desired direction.
  3. Return switch to neutral to prevent accidental movement.

Mirrors can also be adjusted manually.

Defogger and Deicer

  1. Rear window defogger
  2. Outside mirror defogger (if equipped)
  3. Windshield wiper deicer (if equipped)

Activated only when ignition is ON. Press switch on climate control panel. Indicator lights illuminate when active. Turns off automatically after ~15 minutes or manually.

Notes & Cautions

  • Continuous operation canceled if battery voltage drops below permissible level.
  • Do not use sharp tools or abrasive cleaners on rear window.
  • Remove snow from windshield for effective deicing.
  • Continuous operation stops wiper deicer if speed ≤ 9 mph (15 km/h) for 15 min.
