Sounding a Panic Alarm

To activate the alarm, press the “PANIC” button once. The horn will sound and the hazard warning flashers will flash. To deactivate the panic alarm, press any button on the access key/remote transmitter. If no button is pressed, the alarm will automatically deactivate after approximately 30 seconds.

Selecting Audible Signal Operation (Models without Keyless Access with Push-Button Start System)

The system provides an electronic chirp when doors lock/unlock. To deactivate or restore this function:

  1. Sit in the driver’s seat and close all doors and rear gate.
  2. Hold down the REAR (UNLOCK) side of the power door locking switch.
  3. While holding the switch, remove and re-insert the key into the ignition at least 6 times within 10 seconds after Step 2.
  4. Open and close the driver’s door once within 10 seconds after Step 3.
  5. The hazard warning flashers will flash 3 times to indicate completion.

These settings can also be changed by a SUBARU dealer or via the multi-function display (see “Keyless buzzer volume setting” F3-81).

Replacing the Battery

Refer to “Replacing key battery” F11-44.

Replacing Lost Transmitters

If a transmitter is lost or additional ones are needed (up to four), contact a SUBARU dealer to have the transmitters reprogrammed into the remote keyless entry system for security reasons.

Alarm System Overview

The alarm system helps protect your vehicle and valuables from theft. The horn sounds and hazard flashers flash if a break-in is attempted.

System Activation

For models with keyless access and push-button start, the system is armed/disarmed via the access key. It will not activate if the ignition is in “ACC” or “ON”. For models without push-button start, use the remote transmitter. It will not activate if the key is in the ignition switch.

System Operation

  • Horn sounds for 30 seconds when triggered
  • Hazard flashers flash for 30 seconds
  • If doors or rear gate remain open, horn can sound up to 3 minutes

Triggers include:

  • Opening any doors or rear gate
  • Physical impact/forced entry (models with shock sensors)

NOTE: The system can be set to trigger interior lights: map lights, dome light, and cargo area light. These are off by factory default; SUBARU dealer can activate.

Activating/Deactivating the Alarm System

  1. Disarm the system (see “Disarming the system” F2-29).
  2. Sit in the driver’s seat and close all doors and rear gate.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to “ON”.
  4. Hold the REAR (UNLOCK) side of the driver’s power door locking switch, open the driver’s door within 1 second, and wait 10 seconds without releasing the switch.

If previously activated, the odometer displays “AL oF” and horn sounds twice to indicate deactivation. If previously deactivated, the odometer displays “AL on” and horn sounds once to indicate activation.

Dealer assistance is available for these settings.

Stopping an Accidental Alarm Trigger

Perform any of the following:

  • Press any button on the access key/remote transmitter.
  • Turn ignition switch to “ON” (models without push-button start).
  • Turn push-button ignition to “ACC” (models with push-button start).

NOTE: Only registered keys will stop the alarm. Unregistered immobilizer transponders will not deactivate the alarm.
