Subaru FORESTER 5th Generation 2019-2024 Components

Components

  1. SRS frontal airbag
  2. SRS side airbag
  3. SRS curtain airbag
  4. SRS knee airbag

The SRS airbags are stowed in the following locations:

  • Driver’s SRS frontal airbag: center portion of the steering wheel. A “SRS AIRBAG” mark is located at the pad of the airbag.
  • Front passenger’s SRS frontal airbag: near the top of the dashboard under the “SRS AIRBAG” mark.
  • SRS side airbag: in the door side of each front seat seatback, bearing an “SRS AIRBAG” label.
  • SRS curtain airbag: in the roof side (between the front pillar and a point behind the rear quarter glass). An “SRS AIRBAG” mark is located at the top of each center pillar.
  • SRS knee airbag: under the steering column. A “SRS AIRBAG” mark is located at the door of the airbag.

SUBARU Advanced Frontal Airbag System

Your vehicle is equipped with a SUBARU advanced frontal airbag system that complies with the new Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208. It automatically determines the deployment force of the driver’s SRS frontal airbag and whether or not to activate the front passenger’s SRS frontal airbag, adjusting deployment force as needed.

Warning labels are located on the driver’s and front passenger’s sun visors, and a tag on the glove box lid. Always read these instructions carefully and wear your seatbelt. The system must be used in combination with seatbelts. All occupants should wear a seatbelt or use an appropriate child restraint system.

In a moderate to severe frontal collision, the following components deploy:

  • SRS frontal airbag for driver
  • SRS frontal airbag for front passenger
  • SRS knee airbag for driver
  • SRS side airbag*1
  • SRS curtain airbag*1

*1: When an offset frontal collision severe enough to deploy the front airbag occurs. These components supplement the seatbelts by reducing impact to the occupant’s head, chest, and knees.

Driver’s SRS Frontal Airbag

The driver’s SRS frontal airbag uses a dual-stage inflator, which operates differently depending on impact severity. Have the system inspected immediately if the SRS airbag warning light illuminates.

Front Passenger’s SRS Frontal Airbag

The front passenger’s SRS frontal airbag also uses a dual-stage inflator. An occupant detection system sensor under the seat monitors the physique and posture of the passenger to determine whether to deploy the airbag. Even if the front passenger’s airbag does not inflate, the seatbelt pretensioner will operate simultaneously with the driver’s seatbelt pretensioner.

CAUTION
  • Do not apply strong impact to the front passenger’s seat (e.g., kicking).
  • Do not allow rear passengers to rest feet between the front seatback and seat cushion.
  • Do not spill liquids on the front passenger’s seat; wipe immediately if spilled.
  • Do not remove or disassemble the front passenger’s seat.
  • Do not install non-genuine accessories under the front passenger’s seat.
  • Do not place objects (shoes, umbrella, etc.) under the front passenger’s seat.
  • Do not use the front passenger’s seat with the head restraint improperly positioned.
