Skoda Kodiaq 2016-2024 TOP TETHER
TOP TETHER
WARNING
- Child seats that use the TOP TETHER system should only be used on seats fitted with holding eyelets bearing the TOP TETHER symbol.
- Only attach one fastening strap on the child seat to the holding eyelet in the TOP TETHER system.
- When attaching the child seat with the TOP TETHER system, no other object must be attached to the TOP TETHER holding eyelet.
Holding eyelets on the rear seats in the second row
The belt fastened into the TOP TETHER system restricts the movement of the upper part of the child seat.
The holding eyelets for attaching the belt are located:
- A – On the outer rear seats of the second row.
- B – On the middle rear seat of the second row when necessary.
Airbags
Usage
The airbag system provides additional occupant protection in the event of severe frontal and side collisions,
supplementing the protection offered by seat belts.
The best protective effect is achieved only when the seat belt is worn.
The airbag system is not a substitute for seat belts.
Functionality
When the occupant moves into the inflated airbag, the forward movement of the body is reduced and the
risk of injury decreases.
When airbags deploy, smoke may be released. This does not indicate a vehicle fire.
Airbag deployment in the event of an accident
Airbag deployment is influenced by several factors. The deceleration rate at the moment of impact
is the most important factor.
WARNING
Danger of serious or fatal injuries!
- Maintain the correct seating position.
- Do not keep limbs within the deployment area of the airbags.
Airbags are not deployed in the following situations:
- Minor frontal or side collisions.
- Rear-end collisions.
- Vehicle rollovers.
If the measured deceleration rate is below the programmed reference values in the control unit,
airbags may not deploy even if the vehicle suffers serious damage.
Airbag overview
- A – Front airbags
- B – Side airbags (front)
- C – Head airbags
- D – Side airbags (rear)
- E – Driver’s knee airbag
The installation location of the airbags is marked with corresponding lettering.
WARNING
Danger of functional restriction of the side airbags!
- Do not exert excessive force, such as impacts, on the seat backs.
- Do not use seat covers that are not approved by Å KODA.
- Have damaged seat covers at the airbag installation location repaired by a specialist garage.
Deactivating the airbags
It is recommended that airbags other than the front passenger airbag be deactivated only by a
Å KODA service partner.
Airbag deactivation may be required in cases such as:
- If the correct driver seating position cannot maintain a minimum distance of 25 cm between the steering wheel centre and the sternum.
- If additional operating controls are installed for a physically disadvantaged driver.
- If the vehicle has special seats (for example orthopaedic seats without side airbags).
If the airbag or belt tensioner has been deactivated with a diagnostic device, the indicator light
illuminates for 4 seconds after switching on the ignition and then flashes for 12 seconds.
A message regarding the deactivated airbag or belt tensioner will appear.
WARNING
If an airbag is deactivated during the sale of the vehicle, inform the buyer.
Conditions
- The ignition must be switched on.
Troubleshooting
Airbag system faulty
- The indicator light illuminates.
- A message regarding an airbag fault appears.
- Seek assistance from a specialist garage.
Key switch for the front passenger airbag
Usage
Deactivation of the front passenger airbag may be required in the following situations:
- A rear-facing child seat is mounted on the front passenger seat.
- The vehicle has special seats, such as orthopaedic seats without side airbags.
What you should be mindful of
WARNING
Danger of malfunction in the passenger airbag deactivation system!
- Only deactivate the airbag when the ignition is switched off.
WARNING
Danger of unexpected airbag deployment in an accident!
- If the passenger airbag has been deactivated using the key, do not leave the key in the switch while driving.
- Vehicle vibrations could turn the key and unintentionally activate the airbag.
Operation
Before switching the front passenger airbag on/off
- Depending on the key type, completely fold out the key bit.
- Or remove the key bit.
Switching the front passenger airbag on/off
- Switch off the ignition.
- Open the passenger door.
- Insert the key bit fully into the slot of the key switch.
- Turn the key carefully to switch the front passenger airbag on or off.
