NOTICE
Risk of engine overheating!
Do not switch the engine off immediately at the end of your journey after high load. Leave it to idle for about 1 minute.

Notes on Starting
DANGER: Risk of poisoning by exhaust gases! Do not run the engine in an enclosed space.
Operating conditions: The vehicle key is located in the interior.
NOTICE: Risk of key loss or damage! Always keep the key with you. The system can detect the key even if left on the roof.
Switching the Ignition On and Off
Starting with Manual Transmission
- Secure vehicle with parking brake
- Move shift lever to neutral
- Keep clutch pedal depressed
- Press starter button
Starting with Automatic Transmission
- Secure vehicle with parking brake
- Keep brake pedal pressed
- Move selector lever to P or N
- Press starter button
For diesel engines, the preheating indicator lights up; engine starts after it goes out.
CAUTION: At temperatures below -10°C, start with selector lever in P.
Stopping the Engine
- Secure vehicle with parking brake
- Press starter button
WARNING: Steering lock hazard! Ignition must be on if engine is stopped during journey.
NOTICE: Risk of engine overheating! Idle for 1 minute before switching off after high load.
Starting Issues / Troubleshooting
NOTICE: Danger of engine damage! Do not tow-start the vehicle.
- Engine does not start: switch off ignition, wait 30s, retry. Use jump start if needed or call specialist garage
- Immobilizer message: try other vehicle key, seek garage if needed
- Key cannot be turned: move steering wheel back and forth while turning key
- Starter button not detecting key: press button with key, seek garage if not working
- Engine cannot be turned off with button: hold button or press twice
- Radiator fan may run ~10 minutes after stopping—normal
- Engine noise after cold start—brief increased speed, normal
START STOP System
Reduces emissions and fuel consumption. Engine stops when not needed and restarts when moving off.
Functionality
Manual Transmission: Engine off when stopping in neutral and releasing clutch. Engine on when clutch pressed.
Automatic Transmission: Engine off when brake applied, engine on when accelerator pressed. With Auto Hold off, engine starts after brake release.
Status Display
- Instrument cluster: shows engine on/off via START STOP
- Infotainment: detailed vehicle status
Operating Conditions
- Driver’s door closed
- Seat belt fastened
- Driving speed above 4 km/h after last stop
Activation / Deactivation
- Automatic: on engine start or Eco mode
- Deactivate/activate: press button; symbol lights when deactivated
Troubleshooting
Engine does not switch off/start incorrectly: system detects engine running
Manual Gearbox
- NOTICE: Danger of engine damage! Shift before redline
- NOTICE: Danger of gearbox damage! Fully depress clutch; don’t rest hand on lever
Engaging Reverse Gear
- Stop vehicle
- Fully depress clutch
- Shift to neutral, push down lever, turn left, wait briefly, engage reverse
Automatic Gearbox
Lever Positions
- Park: drive wheels locked, only stationary
- Reverse: only stationary
- Neutral: no engine power to wheels
- Forward / Sport: automatic changes; sports mode shifts at higher speeds
- Manual shift: use + / - or paddles; auto disengages if idle
Operation
- Starting: brake pressed, press button in lever, select gear, release brake, accelerate lightly
- Kick-down: fully depress accelerator
- Temporary stop: keep lever in position, brake pressed
- Stopping: brake pressed, parking brake, press button, shift to P, turn off engine
- Driving in neutral: system switches automatically if no gear engaged
Acceleration on Start-up (Launch Control)
- Select manual / sport mode
- Disable TCS
- Brake pressed, fully depress accelerator, release brake
Manual Gear Change
- Selector lever: right (left for RHD) to enable, back to disable
- Shift paddles: + / - to change gears; auto disengages if idle
- Over-rev protection: gearbox auto upshifts; prevents downshift if over-rev
Troubleshooting
- Selector cannot move: mechanically unlock (see page 167)
- Gearbox overheated: continue cautiously or stop if indicated
- Gearbox impaired: drive cautiously, seek specialist immediately
- Starting stuck vehicle: adjust lever between N and R to rock vehicle
- Mechanical release: parking brake, open front stowage, insert tool, lift cover, press lever button, shift to P
Vehicle Driving Mode
Allows adapting driving behavior to style. Info shown in Infotainment and instrument cluster.
Modes
- Eco: relaxed driving, fuel saving
- Comfort: poor surface or long journeys
- Normal: standard driving
- Sport: sporty style
- Individual: configurable systems
- Snow: slippery/snowy roads; disables automatic mode
- Offroad: non-paved roads; adjusts ESC, TCS, EDL, ABS
Operation
- Select mode: press button, choose on Infotainment
- Switch on Offroad: press button; info appears in Offroad Infotainment
- Offroad info: swipe vertically to show steering angle, coolant temp, oil temp, compass, altimeter
Troubleshooting
Adaptive DCC suspension faulty: continue cautiously, seek service if needed
