Seat belts
Functionality

Properly fastened seat belts provide strong protection in the event of an accident. They reduce injury risk and improve survival chances in serious collisions.

WARNING
  • Do not modify or remove seat belts.
  • Do not attempt to repair seat belts yourself.
  • Have damaged seat belts replaced immediately by a specialist garage.
Automatic belt retractor

The belt retractor locks the belt during sudden pulling, heavy braking, rapid acceleration, downhill driving, or cornering.

WARNING

If the belt does not lock when pulled sharply, have the retractor inspected by a specialist garage.

Belt tensioners

Belt tensioners improve safety for the driver, front passenger, and outer passengers in the second row by tightening the belt during a collision.

The tensioner can activate even if the belt is not fastened.

They are not activated during rollovers, minor collisions, or accidents with low forces.

Smoke may be released when the belt tensioner activates. This does not indicate a vehicle fire.

Reversible belt tensioner

Vehicles equipped with a proactive occupant protection system may include reversible belt tensioners.

These tighten the belt automatically during critical driving situations and release it afterward.

Status display in the instrument cluster
  • Indicator illuminated – front seat belt not fastened.
  • Indicator illuminated – rear seat belt not fastened.
