Mitsubishi L200

Super Select 4WD II*

Shifting to rear-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive can be made by operating the drive mode-selector (A). Set the drive mode-selector to an appropriate position according to road surface conditions. The 2WD/4WD operation indication lamp and low-range indication lamp indicate the drive mode-selector setting state. Refer to “2WD/4WD operation indication lamp and low-range indication lamp” on page 6-42.

Drive Mode-Selector Position and 2WD/4WD Operation Indication Lamp

Drive Mode Indication Lamp Driving Conditions
2H Rear-wheel drive Driving on dry paved road
4H Full-time 4-wheel drive Basic position for Super Select 4WD II. Driving on dry paved or slippery roads
4HLc Centre differential lock engaged 4-wheel drive Driving on rough, sand or snow-covered roads
4LLc Low range centre differential lock engaged 4-wheel drive Driving up or down steep hills, on rough or muddy roads (increased torque required)

CAUTIONS

  • The “4LLc” range gives maximum torque for low-speed driving on steep slopes, sandy, muddy, or other difficult surfaces. Do not exceed ~70 km/h (43 mph) in “4LLc” with A/T.
  • Do not drive in “4HLc” or “4LLc” on dry paved roads and highways to avoid excessive tyre wear, increased fuel consumption, noise, or drive system damage. Use “2H” or “4H” on paved roads only.

Drive Mode-Selector Operation

The drive mode is shown on the drive mode-selector knob. Turn or turn while holding down as needed. Position the selector according to the following conditions:

Shift From Shift To Procedure (Manual Transmission) Procedure (Automatic Transmission)
2H 4H Can operate while moving or stationary. Shift gear to N if stationary. Release accelerator while moving and steer straight. Can operate while moving or stationary. Shift selector to N if stationary. Shift to D and release accelerator while moving, steer straight.
4H 2H or 4HLc Follow similar procedure with clutch/gear as needed. Follow similar procedure with selector/gear as needed.
4HLc 4H Stop vehicle, depress clutch and operate selector. Stop vehicle, shift selector to N and operate selector.
4HLc 4LLc Stop vehicle, depress clutch fully while 2WD/4WD lamp blinks, then operate selector. Stop vehicle, shift selector to N, operate selector. Gear noise may occur if not in N.

NOTES

  • Setting between 2H, 4H, and 4HLc should be below 100 km/h (62 mph).
  • Do not shift from 4HLc to 4LLc while driving.
  • Transfer gear may make noise in cold weather; stop vehicle if necessary.
  • While stopped, 2WD/4WD lamps blink during selection; drive slowly after illumination.
  • Do not operate selector while rear wheels are slipping on snow or ice.

2WD/4WD Operation Indication Lamp and Low-Range Indication Lamp

A - Front wheel lamp
B - Centre differential lock lamp
C - Rear wheel lamp
D - Low-range indication lamp

When ignition switch is ON or operation mode is ON, lamps indicate shifting condition:

2H ↔ 4H
  • 2H: Drive mode switching in progress
  • 4H: Blink / Illuminate / Remain off as indicated
4H ↔ 4HLc
  • 4H: Drive mode switching in progress
  • 4HLc: Blink / Illuminate / Remain off as indicated
4HLc ↔ 4LLc
  • 4HLc / 4LLc: Blink / Illuminate / Remain off as indicated

NOTES

  • Front and/or centre differential lock lamps blink during 2H ↔ 4H ↔ 4HLc selection. Keep steering straight. Drive slowly after illumination.
  • During 4HLc ↔ 4LLc shifting, front and rear lamps blink until fully illuminated.

NOTE: When parking, apply parking brake before stopping.
