Seat Belts

To protect you and your passengers in the event of an accident, it is most important that seat belts are worn correctly while driving.

The front seat belts each have a pretensioner system (Single cab and Club cab). The front seat belts and rear outer seat belts each have a pretensioner system (Double cab).

WARNING

  • Seat belts should always be worn by every adult and by all children tall enough to wear them properly. Smaller children must use appropriate child restraint systems.
  • Always place the shoulder belt over your shoulder and across your chest. Never put it behind you or under your arm.
  • One seat belt must be used by only one person.
  • The seat belt provides maximum protection when the seatback is fully upright.
  • Remove any twists in the belt before fastening.
  • Never hold a child in your arms or lap while riding in the vehicle.
  • Always adjust the belt to a snug fit and wear the lap portion over your hips.

3-Point Type Seat Belt (Emergency Locking Mechanism)

This belt requires no manual length adjustment. It automatically adjusts to the wearer’s movement but locks during sudden or strong impact.

NOTE
  • You can check if the belt locks by pulling it forward quickly.

To Fasten

  1. Pull the seat belt out slowly while holding the latch plate.
  2. Insert the latch plate into the buckle until a “click” is heard.
  3. Pull the belt slightly to remove slack.

WARNING

  • Never wear the lap belt across your abdomen.
  • The seat belt must not be twisted when worn.

To Unfasten

Hold the latch plate and press the buckle release button.

NOTE
  • Allow the belt to retract slowly while holding the latch plate.
  • If the belt or ring becomes dirty, clean with mild soap solution.

Seat Belt Reminder

Driver and Front Passenger*

If the ignition switch is turned to ON and the seat belt is not fastened, the warning lamp illuminates and a tone sounds for approximately 6 seconds.

If driving continues without fastening the belt, the warning lamp blinks and the tone sounds intermittently until fastened.

WARNING

  • Do not install accessories or stickers that make the warning lamp difficult to see.
NOTE
  • The front passenger warning works only when someone is seated (Club cab and Double cab).
  • Luggage placed on the front passenger seat may trigger the warning (Club cab and Double cab).

Rear Passenger Seats*

If a rear seat belt is not fastened when ignition is ON, the warning lamp illuminates for approximately 30 seconds.

If driving begins with the belt unfastened, the lamp illuminates again for approximately 30 seconds.

NOTE
  • The lamp may illuminate even if no one is seated.
  • If unfastened while driving, a tone sounds for approximately 1 second.

Adjustable Seat Belt Anchor (Front Seats – Club Cab and Double Cab)

Pull the lock knob (A) and slide the anchor to the desired position. Release to lock.

WARNING

  • Adjust the anchor high enough so the belt contacts your shoulder but does not touch your neck.

Pregnant Women Restraint

WARNING

  • Seat belts should be worn by pregnant women.
  • Wear the lap belt across the thighs and hips, not across the waist.
  • Consult your doctor if you have questions.

Seat Belt Pretensioner System and Force Limiter System*

The pretensioner system retracts seat belts instantly during severe frontal or side impacts (if equipped) to maximize effectiveness.

WARNING

  • Adjust your seat correctly and wear the belt properly for best pretensioner performance.

CAUTION

  • Repairs near pretensioners must follow manufacturer guidelines.
  • Pretensioners are designed to activate only once and must be replaced after deployment.

Force Limiter System

The force limiter absorbs load applied to the seat belt during a collision to minimize impact to occupants.

Child Restraint

When transporting children, always use an appropriate child restraint system suitable for the child’s size and weight. Laws in most countries require this.

WARNING

  • Children are safer when properly restrained in the rear seat.
  • Holding a child in your arms is not a substitute for a restraint system.
  • Each child restraint device should be used by only one child.

Caution for Vehicles with Front Passenger Airbag

WARNING

  • Extreme Hazard: Never use a rearward-facing child restraint on a seat protected by an active airbag.
  • If a forward-facing child restraint must be used in the front passenger seat, turn off the front passenger airbag ON-OFF switch (Club cab and Double cab).

Infants and Small Children

  • Use an infant carrier for small infants.
  • Use a child seat for children whose shoulder belt would contact the face or throat.
  • The child restraint should be installed in the rear seat whenever possible.
  • Ensure the restraint is securely installed and does not move excessively.

WARNING

  • Follow the child restraint manufacturer’s installation instructions.
  • After installation, push and pull the restraint to ensure it is secure.
  • When not in use, secure or remove the child restraint to prevent movement during sudden stops.
NOTE
  • Some child restraints may attach using ISOFIX lower anchorages in the rear seat (Double cab).
