Mitsubishi L200

Storing the Spare Wheel

  1. Install the hanger disc (A) in the wheel disc hole.
  2. Turn the wheel nut wrench (B) clockwise to wind up the chain.

NOTE: Confirm that the hanger disc is securely fitted in the wheel disc hole when the wheel is just lifted off the ground.

  1. After winding up the spare wheel sufficiently, ensure it is not loose (tightening torque ≈ 40 N•m, achieved by applying 200 N at the end of the wheel nut wrench), then withdraw the jack handle without turning it in reverse.

CAUTION:

  • The spare wheel should always be securely in position.
  • If a flat tyre is changed, place it in the spare wheel mounting position with the wheel outer surface upward and secure it firmly with the wheel nut wrench.
  • Do not use a power tool or apply a force ≥ 400 N at the end of the wheel nut wrench to avoid breaking the spare wheel carrier.
  1. Have your damaged tyre repaired as soon as possible.

Storing the Tools, Jack, and Jack Handle

Reverse the removal procedure to store the jack, jack handle, and wheel nut wrench. Refer to “Tools, jack and jack handle” p.8-11.

Towing

If your vehicle needs to be towed, it is recommended to have it done by a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized Service Point or commercial tow truck service.

Use a tow truck in the following cases:

  • Engine runs but vehicle does not move or abnormal noise is produced.
  • Inspection shows fluid leaks under the vehicle.
  • If a wheel is stuck in a ditch, do not tow; contact authorized service or tow truck.

Only when a professional towing service is unavailable, follow the “Emergency towing” instructions. Regulations may differ by country.

Towing by a Tow Truck

CAUTION:

  • Do not use a sling lift (Type A); it may damage the bumper and front end.
  • 4WD vehicles: set drive mode-selector to “2H” and place driving wheels on carriage (Type D/E). Do not tow in 4H, 4HLc, 4LLc or front/rear wheels on ground (Type B/C) to avoid damage.
  • ASTC-equipped vehicles: do not tow with only front or rear wheels off the ground with ignition ON; system may operate causing accident.

2WD Vehicles: Transport with driving wheels on a carriage (Type C/D/E). Automatic transmission: avoid towing with driving wheels on ground (Type B) beyond 30 km/h (19 mph) or 80 km (50 miles).

Manual transmission: do not tow with rear wheels on the ground (Type B).

Towing with Wheels Off the Ground

Front Wheels Off (Type B)

Automatic transmission: place selector lever in “N”, release parking brake.

CAUTION: Never tow automatic transmission with front wheels up if fluid level is low; serious damage may occur.

Rear Wheels Off (Type C)

Manual: gearshift lever to “N”. Automatic: selector lever to “N”. Turn ignition to “ACC” and secure steering wheel straight with rope/strap. Never turn ignition to “LOCK”.

Emergency Towing

If no towing service is available, a vehicle may be temporarily towed by rope attached to the towing hook.

Towed by Another Vehicle

  1. Front towing hooks: secure tow rope to front hook.

NOTE:

  • Use only designated hooks. Non-metallic rope recommended; wrap wire or chain with cloth where it touches the vehicle.
  • Keep tow rope as horizontal and straight as possible.
  1. Keep engine running. If not running, unlock steering wheel:
    Manual: ignition to ACC/ON.
    Automatic: ignition to ON.
Keyless system: put operation mode in ACC/ON (manual) or ON (automatic).

WARNING: Brakes and power steering inactive when engine off; higher brake effort and steering effort required.

CAUTION: Do not leave ignition in LOCK or mode OFF; steering wheel locks causing loss of control.

  1. Place gearshift/selector lever in “N”.
  2. 4WD: set drive mode selector to “2H”.
  3. Turn on hazard lamps if required.
  4. Maintain close contact between towing drivers at low speed.

WARNING: Avoid sudden braking, acceleration, or steering; may damage towing hook or rope. People nearby could be injured. Brakes may overheat on long slopes.

CAUTION: Vehicle being towed must monitor tow vehicle brake lamps; avoid slack in rope. Automatic transmission: adhere to max speed 30 km/h and distance 80 km (50 miles).

Towing Another Vehicle (Rear Hook Only)

Rear towing hook: secure tow rope to rear hook. Instructions otherwise same as front towing.

CAUTION: Super Select 4WD II: set drive mode-selector to 4H. Do not tow heavier vehicles than your own.

Operation under Adverse Driving Conditions

On Flooded Roads

  • Avoid flooded roads. Driving in floods may cause engine stalling, electrical short, or engine damage.
  • After driving through floods, have inspection done at a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized Service Point.
