Catalytic Converter

The exhaust gas scavenging devices used with the catalytic converter are extremely efficient for the reduction of noxious gases. It is installed in the exhaust system. Keep the engine properly tuned to ensure proper catalyst operation and prevent possible catalyst damage.

WARNING: Do not park or operate the vehicle near combustible materials such as dry grass or leaves, as contact with a hot exhaust can cause a fire.

NOTE: Use fuel recommended in “Fuel selection” p.2-02.

Bonnet

To Open

  1. Pull the release lever towards you to unlock the bonnet.
  2. Raise the bonnet while pressing the safety lock.

NOTE: Only open the bonnet when wipers are parked to avoid damage.

  1. Support the bonnet by inserting the support bar in its slot.

CAUTION: Ensure the support bar securely holds the bonnet; strong wind may disengage it.

To Close

  1. Unlatch the support bar and clip it in its holder.
  2. Lower the bonnet slowly to ~20 cm above closed, then let it drop.
  3. Confirm the bonnet is securely locked by softly lifting its center.

CAUTION: Avoid trapping hands or fingers; ensure the bonnet is fully locked before driving.

NOTE: If not closing properly, release from a slightly higher position; do not press down firmly.

Engine Oil

Checking and Refilling

Oil marks:

  • A: Minimum level
  • B: Maximum level
  • C: Oil replacement indication mark

Use recommended oil quality and viscosity. All engines consume oil; check regularly or before long trips.

  1. Park on horizontal surface.
  2. Switch off engine.
  3. Wait a few minutes.
  4. Remove dipstick, wipe clean.
  5. Reinsert fully, remove again, and read oil level.
  6. If below specified limit, remove engine oil cap and add oil to correct level. Do not overfill. Use specified engine oil only.
  7. Close cap securely.
  8. Confirm oil level by repeating dipstick check.

NOTE: On DPF-equipped vehicles, oil level may rise due to fuel mixing during regeneration; this is normal. Frequent uphill, high altitude driving, extended idling, or traffic jams can increase oil level. Replace oil earlier under severe conditions.

Engine Coolant

Checking Level

Coolant reserve tank (transparent) should be between "L" (LOW) and "F" (FULL) marks when cold.

Adding Coolant

If below "L", open the lid and add coolant. If tank empty, remove radiator cap and fill to filler neck.

WARNING: Do not open radiator cap when engine is hot; system is pressurized.

The coolant contains ethylene glycol anti-corrosion agent. Use MITSUBISHI MOTORS GENUINE SUPER LONG LIFE COOLANT PREMIUM or equivalent. Do not use plain water, alcohol, or methanol-based antifreeze. Maintain correct concentration: above -35°C → 50%, below -35°C → 60%.

CAUTION: Do not exceed 60% concentration; do not top up with water only.

Washer Fluid

Open reservoir cap and check fluid with dipstick. Refill if low.

NOTE: Container serves windscreen and headlamps (if equipped). Use antifreeze fluid in cold weather.

Brake Fluid

Checking Level

Fluid must be between "MAX" and "MIN" on reservoir. Level falls slightly with pad wear. Significant drop indicates leakage and should be inspected.

Fluid Type

Use DOT3 or DOT4 brake fluid. It is hygroscopic; avoid contamination. Do not mix brands or allow petroleum-based fluids to contact brake fluid.

WARNING: Brake fluid is harmful to eyes and skin; flush immediately if contact occurs.

CAUTION: Keep cap closed except during maintenance; clean filler cap before removal and secure after.

Clutch Fluid*

Check master cylinder fluid when performing under-hood service. Maintain between "MAX" and "MIN". Rapid loss indicates leak; inspect immediately.

Use DOT3 or DOT4 brake fluid. Avoid contamination with petroleum-based fluids.

WARNING: Harmful to eyes and skin; flush immediately if contact occurs.

Power Steering Fluid

Check while engine idling. Maintain between "MAX" and "MIN" levels. Use MITSUBISHI MOTORS GENUINE PSF.

Battery

Battery condition is critical for quick starts and reliable operation.
