Installing a Child Restraint System to the Lower Anchorage (ISOFIX Child Restraint Mountings) and Tether Anchorage (Double Cab)
Lower Anchorage Location
Your vehicle’s rear seat is fitted with lower anchorages for attaching a child restraint system with ISOFIX mountings.
- Type 1: ISOFIX marking
- Type 2: i-Size marking
Tether Anchorage Location
There are 2 child restraint anchorage points on the vertical panel, located behind the rear seat. These are for securing a child restraint system tether strap to each of the 2 rear seating positions.
*: Front of the vehicle
WARNING
- Child restraint anchorages are designed to withstand only those loads imposed by correctly fitted child restraints.
- Under no circumstances are they to be used for adult seat belts, harnesses, or for attaching other items or equipment to the vehicle.
Child Restraint System with ISOFIX Mountings (Double Cab)
The child restraint system is designed only for seats that incorporate lower anchorages. Retain the child restraint system using the lower anchorages. It is not necessary to use the vehicle’s seat belts.
A - Child restraint system connectors
To Install
- Remove any foreign material in or around the connectors and ensure the vehicle seat belt is in its normal storage position.
- Remove the head restraint from the location where the child restraint will be installed. Refer to “Head restraints*”.
-
Push the child restraint system’s connectors (A) into the lower anchorages (B) according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
A - Connector
B - Lower anchorage
If your child restraint system has a support leg, ensure it is positioned securely and stably on the floor.
If your child restraint system has a tether strap, perform steps 4 through 8. If it does not have a tether strap, proceed to step 8.
- Drop the child restraint’s tether strap (C) down through the clearance between the rear seatback and back panel trim.
- Tip the armrest forward. Open the two fasteners (D) located in the space where the armrest is stowed.
- Open the inner cover.
-
Put your hand in the opening of the two fasteners, attach the tether strap hook (E) to the tether anchorage (F), and securely tighten the tether strap.
- Push and pull the child restraint system in all directions to ensure it is firmly secured.
NOTE
- If it is difficult to latch the tether strap hook, turn the hook sideways.
To Remove
Remove the child restraint system in accordance with the instructions provided by the child restraint system’s manufacturer.
Installing a Child Restraint System to a 3-Point Type Seat Belt (With Emergency Locking Mechanism)
Installation
-
Place the child restraint system on the seat and remove the head restraint from that seat. Refer to “Head restraints*”.
CAUTION
- Do not remove the head restraint when installing a booster cushion.
- When installing in the front passenger seat, adjust the seat to its most rearward position.
- Route the seat belt through the child restraint according to the manufacturer’s instructions, then insert the latch plate into the buckle.
- Remove all slack by using the locking clip (A).
- If your child restraint system has a support leg, ensure it is positioned stably on the floor.
- Before placing the child in the restraint, push and pull the child restraint in all directions to ensure it is secure. Repeat this check before each use.
WARNING
-
For some types of child restraint, the locking clip (A) should be used to help avoid personal injury during a collision or sudden manoeuvre.
-
It must be fitted and used in accordance with the child restraint manufacturer’s instructions.
- The locking clip must be removed when the child restraint is removed.
Seat Belt Inspection
Check the belts for cuts, worn or frayed webbing, and cracked or deformed metallic parts. Replace the belt assembly if defective.
WARNING
-
Have all seat belt assemblies, including retractors and attaching hardware, inspected after any collision.
-
Replace seat belt assemblies used during a collision unless the collision was minor and the belts show no damage and operate properly.
-
Do not attempt to repair or replace any part of the seat belt assemblies. This work should be performed by a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized Service Point.
-
Once the pretensioner has been activated, it cannot be reused and must be replaced together with the retractor.
-
Do not insert foreign objects into the buckle or retractor mechanism and do not modify or remove the seat belt.
-
Clean dirty belts with neutral detergent in warm water. Let dry in the shade. Do not bleach or re-dye.
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) - Airbag*
The SRS includes important information concerning the driver’s and front passenger’s airbags, driver’s knee airbag, side airbags, and curtain airbags.
The SRS driver’s and front passenger’s airbags supplement the primary protection provided by seat belts during certain moderate-to-severe frontal collisions.
The SRS driver’s knee airbag (if equipped) reduces forward movement of the driver’s lower legs during frontal collisions.
The SRS side airbags (if equipped) provide additional chest protection during moderate-to-severe side impact collisions.
The SRS curtain airbags (if equipped) provide head protection for front and rear outboard occupants during moderate-to-severe side impacts and may deploy during rollover.
The SRS is not a substitute for seat belts. All occupants must wear seat belts at all times.
NOTE
- The ERA-GLONASS (if equipped) is designed to operate when any of the airbags deploy.
Airbag Operation Conditions
- Ignition switch in “ON” or “START” position (except keyless operation system).
- Operation mode in ON (vehicles with keyless operation system).
Airbag deployment produces a sudden loud noise and releases smoke and powder. These are not harmful and do not indicate fire. The airbags deflate rapidly after deployment.
CAUTION
- Airbags inflate extremely rapidly and may cause minor abrasions, bruises, or cuts.
WARNING
-
It is very important to be properly seated. Sitting too close to the steering wheel or instrument panel can result in serious or fatal injury.
-
Do not sit on the edge of the seat, lean forward, or place feet on the instrument panel.
-
Infants and small children must be properly restrained in the rear seat using an appropriate child restraint system.
-
Never use a rearward-facing child restraint on a seat protected by an active front passenger airbag.
Front Passenger’s Airbag ON-OFF Switch (Club Cab and Double Cab)
The front passenger’s airbag ON-OFF switch can disable the front passenger’s airbag. If a child restraint must be installed in the front passenger seat, turn the airbag OFF before use.
Front Passenger’s Airbag Indicator (Club Cab and Double Cab)
The front passenger’s airbag indicator is located in the instrument panel.
- Both indicators illuminate briefly when the ignition is turned ON.
- When the airbag ON-OFF switch is OFF, the OFF indicator remains illuminated.
- When switched ON, the OFF indicator turns off and the ON indicator illuminates for approximately 1 minute.
