MZD Connect Basic Operations

NOTE: The explanation of functions described in this manual may differ from actual operation. Screen shapes, buttons, letters, and characters may also differ. Content may change with software updates. Refer to the MZD Connect Owner’s Manual for details.
Commander Switch Operation

The commander switch allows switching and operating functions. Place the palm on the commander knob so fingers can reach all switches. You can switch screens without looking at your hand.

NOTE: Some operations are disabled while driving. Switch shapes vary by vehicle model.
Commander Switch Items
  1. Volume Knob: Adjust volume by turning. Press to mute/unmute. Press and hold to turn MZD Connect off. During voice guidance or hands-free call, the respective volume changes. Muting an audio source that can be paused also pauses playback.
    Radio Station: Slide left/right to select FM/AM or DAB stations. Press and hold for automatic station selection.
    Cuing: Slide knob to next/previous track.
  2. Entertainment Button: Displays last-used audio source screen. During Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, shows playback screen.
  3. Commander Knob (Selection): Rotate or slide to select function.
  4. Commander Knob (Select): Press to confirm selection.
  5. Map Button: Displays navigation screen (SD card required). During Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, shows map screen.
  6. Back Button: Returns to previous screen.
  7. Home Button: Displays home screen. Press and hold to switch between MZD Connect and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.
  8. Favourites Button: Displays favourites. Press and hold to register contacts, stations, or navigation points.
Audio Remote Control Switch Operation

Located on the left side of the steering wheel, allowing audio operation from the wheel. Shapes vary by model.

  1. Volume Adjustment Button: Press (+) or (-) to adjust volume. Volume changes for voice guidance and hands-free calls.
  2. Seek Switch: Press to select FM/AM or DAB stations. Press and hold for automatic selection. Cuing: press to skip to next/previous track.
  3. SOURCE Button: Switch audio source. Press and hold to turn off audio and display source selection screen. During Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, press and hold to turn off playback.
  4. Hang-up Button: End or refuse calls. Can also use voice recognition.
  5. Talk/Pick-up Button: Answer calls. Activates voice recognition. Can also use voice recognition.
  6. Mute Button: Press to mute audio; press again to cancel. Muting a pausable source also pauses playback.
Operation Using Voice Recognition Function
  1. Talk/Pick-up Button: Press to activate voice recognition. Skip voice guidance while pressed.
  2. Hang-up Button: Press to end voice recognition.

Voice commands while Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is connected activate Siri or Android Auto voice recognition; MZD Connect voice recognition is not activated.

Commands Usable at Any Time
  • Help: Check usable voice commands.
  • Back: Returns to previous screen. Deletes input on phone number input screen.
  • Cancel: Ends voice recognition.
  • Owner's Manual: Displays operation guide screen.
Voice Recognition Tips
  • Connect mobile phone via Bluetooth before voice operation.
  • Speak slightly louder than normal; no need to be excessively loud or slow.
  • Recognition improves for longer names; short names may have errors.
  • Speak clearly without pausing between words/numbers.
  • Use exact wording of commands; facing microphone not required.
  • Close windows/sunroof and avoid airflow on microphone.
  • If recognition is poor with guidance volume high, set Barge-In to OFF.
