Driver Monitoring (DM)

WARNING: Do not rely completely on the DM and always drive carefully.

The Driver Monitoring (DM) system detects driver fatigue and sleepiness and encourages the driver to take a rest. It is not designed to prevent driver fatigue and sleepiness. Over-reliance on the system could lead to an accident. Always drive carefully and operate the steering wheel appropriately.

The system may not detect fatigue or sleepiness correctly depending on traffic and driving conditions. The driver must take sufficient rest to drive safely.

Operation Conditions
  • Monitoring begins after 20 minutes of driving.
  • Vehicle speed must be approximately 5 km/h (3 mph) or faster.
NOTE:
  • If speed drops below 5 km/h (3 mph), monitoring stops for 6 minutes even if speed increases again.
  • If the driver monitoring camera does not recognise the driver correctly, monitoring may not function properly.
  • After displaying the first rest message, it will not display again during the following periods:
    • After a caution warning: next caution after 45 minutes.
    • After a warning alert: next warning after 15 minutes.
    • After a warning alert: next caution after 45 minutes.
Driver Monitoring (DM) Display
Warning Pattern (Caution – White)

“Time for a Break” message is displayed in the instrument cluster.

Warning Pattern (Warning – Amber)

“Time for a Break” message is displayed with a warning sound.

Cancelling Driver Monitoring (DM)

The Driver Monitoring (DM) system can be set to inoperable via the Settings section in the MZD Connect Owner's Manual.

Front Cross Traffic Alert (FCTA)

The FCTA assists the driver in checking both sides of the vehicle when starting to drive at an intersection. It detects vehicles approaching from the front left and right blind spots and notifies the driver through warning indications and warning sounds.

WARNING: Always visually check the surrounding area when starting to drive at an intersection.

Due to system limitations, warning indications or sounds may be delayed. The driver is responsible for checking left and right sides.

Operation Conditions
  • Vehicle speed is less than approximately 10 km/h (6 mph).
  • Automatic transmission: Selector lever in D position.
  • Manual transmission: Shift lever not in N or R.
  • Approaching vehicle speed is approximately 5 km/h (3 mph) or faster.
FCTA Operation
When Vehicle is Stopped
  • White arrow indication appears in the multi-information display.
  • Active driving display (if equipped).
  • 360° view monitor (if equipped).
When Vehicle is Moving
  • Amber arrow warning appears.
  • Warning sound activates simultaneously.
NOTE:
  • System may operate even if no vehicle is approaching (radio reflections, traffic congestion, turning vehicles, etc.).
  • May not operate properly in heavy rain, fog, snow, sharp curves, radio interference, or sensor obstruction.
  • If the i-ACTIVSENSE warning light remains on, have the vehicle inspected by an authorised repairer.
Cancelling FCTA
  • Can be turned off via Settings.
  • Can be turned off using the i-ACTIVSENSE switch.

Note: System status is maintained after ignition is turned OFF.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)

The RCTA assists the driver when reversing by detecting vehicles approaching from the rear left and right sides. It alerts the driver using Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator lights and a warning buzzer.

WARNING: Always check the surrounding area visually before reversing.

The system is only an assist feature. Warning lights may not flash or may be delayed.

RCTA Operation
  1. Operates when shift/selector lever is in Reverse (R).
  2. If collision risk exists:
    • BSM warning indicator lights flash.
    • Warning beep activates.
    • Rear view monitor and 360° view monitor (if equipped) synchronize with mirror indicators.
Function for Cancelling Illumination Dimmer

If BSM warning lights turn on with position lights, their brightness is dimmed. If difficult to see due to glare (snow, fog), press the dimmer cancellation button to increase brightness.

NOTE:
  • System may operate even if no vehicle is approaching (radio reflections, parked vehicles, etc.).
  • May not operate properly if reversing faster than 15 km/h (9 mph).
  • Sensor obstruction (snow, ice, walls) may prevent detection.
  • Turn off system when towing a trailer or using rear accessories.
  • If i-ACTIVSENSE warning light remains on, have vehicle inspected.
Cancelling RCTA
  • Can be turned off via Settings.
  • Can be turned off using the i-ACTIVSENSE switch.

Note: System status is maintained after ignition is turned OFF.
