Mazda 3

Displayable Range on the Screen

The images on the screen may differ from actual conditions:

  1. Screen display
  2. Actual view
  3. Bumper
  4. "Check surroundings for safety." message
  5. Object
NOTE:
  • Displayable range varies depending on vehicle and road conditions.
  • Dirt or touch on camera lens affects the screen image; wipe lens with a soft cloth.
  • Objects under or around bumper ends may not be displayed.
  • Displayed distances differ due to lens type; images are mirror images.
  • Optional vehicle accessories may appear in the camera view; avoid reflective or illuminated parts near cameras.
  • Visibility may be difficult in dark areas, extreme temperatures, wet camera, mud on lens, direct sunlight, or artificial lights.
  • Screen may show small flickering dots or delayed images in low temperature.
Viewing the Display

Guide lines indicate vehicle width (yellow) and approximate distances (red/yellow) from the rear bumper:

  • Vehicle width guide lines (yellow)
  • Distance guide lines: red ≈ 50 cm, yellow ≈ 100 cm from rear bumper
CAUTION: Guide lines are fixed and do not follow steering wheel movements. Always check surroundings directly while backing up.
Rear View Monitor Operation

When reversing, operation varies with traffic, road, and vehicle conditions. Confirm surroundings directly and steer accordingly.

  1. Shift lever to Reverse (R) to activate rear view monitor display.
  2. Check surroundings and begin reversing.
  3. Adjust steering so vehicle width lines are roughly equidistant from parking space sides.
  4. Straighten wheels and back into space while monitoring surroundings.
  5. When shifting from Reverse (R) to another gear, screen returns to previous display.
NOTE:
  • Displayed image may differ from actual conditions; always verify safety visually.
  • Parking space lines may appear aligned on-screen but not on the ground.
Variance Between Actual Road Conditions and Displayed Image
  • Vehicle tilt due to load may make objects appear farther.
  • Steep grade behind vehicle: upgrade appears farther, downgrade appears closer.
  • Distance guide lines assume flat surfaces; 3D objects may appear at different distances.

  3. Sensed distance on screen A>B>C
  4. Actual distance B>C=A

Parking Sensor System*

Ultrasonic sensors detect obstructions at low speeds and notify the driver via buzzer and indicators.

Sensor Positions
  1. Front ultrasonic sensor*
  2. Front corner ultrasonic sensor*
  3. Rear ultrasonic sensor
  4. Rear corner ultrasonic sensor
  5. Rear side ultrasonic sensor*
WARNING: Do not rely solely on sensors. Always confirm surroundings visually while driving.
CAUTION:
  • Do not install accessories within sensor detection ranges.
  • Detection may be limited by obstruction type or environmental conditions.
NOTE:
  • System may not operate normally if sensors are covered with mud, ice, or snow, frozen, excessively shocked, tilted, or in extreme temperatures.
  • Obstructions under the bumper, thin objects, sonic-absorbing materials, angular, very tall or small objects may not be detected.
  • Have system inspected after bumper shocks or minor accidents; misaligned sensors may fail.
  • System malfunction messages should be inspected by an Authorised Mazda Repairer.
  • Trailer hitch installation may disable rear sensors automatically.
Sensor Detection Range
  1. Front ultrasonic sensor: approx. 55 cm (green range)
  2. Front corner ultrasonic sensor: approx. 55 cm
  3. Rear ultrasonic sensor: approx. 150 cm
  4. Rear corner / Rear side ultrasonic sensor: approx. 100 cm
Viewing Distance Display

Colors indicate distance between vehicle and obstruction:

Sensor Green Yellow Amber Red
Front ultrasonic 100–60 cm 60–45 cm 45–35 cm ≤35 cm
Front corner ultrasonic 55–38 cm 38–25 cm ≤25 cm
Rear ultrasonic 150–60 cm 60–45 cm 45–35 cm ≤35 cm
Rear corner / Rear side ultrasonic 55–38 cm 38–25 cm ≤25 cm
Park Assist Sensor System Operation
  1. Press parking sensor switch with ignition ON; buzzer sounds and indicator lights up.
  2. Press again to stop operation.
NOTE: Ignition OFF preserves system status; sensors will resume previous state when ignition ON.
