Inspecting Washer Fluid Level

WARNING: Use only windscreen washer fluid or plain water in the reservoir. Using radiator antifreeze as washer fluid is dangerous. It may dirty the windscreen, affect visibility, and result in an accident.

Inspect the fluid level in the washer fluid reservoir; add fluid if necessary. The top of the float should be between F and E. Use plain water if washer fluid is unavailable, but in cold weather, only use washer fluid to prevent freezing.

NOTE: Front and rear washer fluid is supplied from the same reservoir.
Body Lubrication

All moving points of the body, such as door and bonnet hinges and locks, should be lubricated each time the engine oil is changed. Use a nonfreezing lubricant on locks during cold weather. Ensure the bonnet's secondary latch keeps it from opening when the primary latch is released.

Wiper Blades
CAUTION: Hot waxes from automatic car washes may affect wiper performance. Do not use petrol, paraffin, paint thinner, or other solvents on or near the blades. When the wiper lever is ON, the wipers may move automatically if the windscreen above the rain sensor is touched, wiped, or struck.

Avoid pinching hands or fingers. When washing or servicing the vehicle, ensure the wiper lever is in the OFF position. Contamination by insects, tree sap, or wax can reduce wiper effectiveness. Clean blades and windscreen with a mild detergent and rinse thoroughly if needed.

Replacing Windscreen Wiper Blades

When wipers no longer clean well, the blades are likely worn or cracked and should be replaced.

CAUTION: Replace with Mazda genuine wiper blades. Do not sweep the wiper arm by hand, bend the blade rubber unnecessarily, or hold a blade by its end when raising the arm. Improper handling may damage the blade or wiper operation.
NOTE: You can replace the blades yourself, but not the wiper arms. For wiper arm replacement, consult an expert repairer, we recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer.
  1. Move the wipers to the service positions:
    1. Switch ignition ON.
    2. Switch ignition OFF.
    3. Press the wiper switch up twice within 30 seconds after switching ignition OFF.
  2. Raise the wiper arms. Let them down slowly to avoid windscreen damage.
  3. Slide the blade component in the arrow direction while pressing the wiper arm tab to remove it.
  4. Pull the blade rubber along the arrow direction to remove it from the holder.
  5. Insert the new blade rubber into the holder groove until it contacts the end.
  6. Slide and check the blade holder groove; adjust the blade rubber accordingly.
  7. Ensure the blade rubber is correctly installed.
  8. Slide the blade component back onto the wiper arm.
  9. Slowly lower the wiper arms onto the windscreen.
  10. Move wipers to initial positions:
    1. Set wipers on the windscreen.
    2. Switch ignition ON.
    3. Press the wiper switch up once.
Replacing Rear Window Wiper Blade (Hatchback)

If the rear wiper no longer cleans well, the blade is worn or cracked and should be replaced.

CAUTION: Do not move the rear wiper by hand to prevent damage. Avoid letting the wiper arm fall on the rear window.
  1. Raise the wiper arm and rotate the blade right until it unlocks, then remove the blade.
  2. Pull down the blade rubber and slide it out of the blade holder.
  3. Remove the metal stiffeners from the old blade rubber and install them in the new blade. Do not bend or discard them.
  4. Carefully insert the new blade rubber, then install the blade assembly in reverse order.
Battery
WARNING: Read precautions carefully before using or inspecting the battery. Always wear eye protection when working near the battery to avoid injury.
