Peugeot 208 2016-2022 Seat Belts

Seat Belts

At the Front
Fastening
  • Pull the strap, then insert the tongue in the buckle
  • Check that the seat belt is fastened correctly by pulling the strap
Unfastening
  • Press the red button on the buckle
  • Guide the seat belt as it reels in

The front seat belts are fitted with a pretensioning and force limiting system. Depending on the severity of an impact, the pretensioners tighten the belt instantly and the force limiter reduces chest pressure. Pretensioners are active when the ignition is on.

Height Adjustment (5-door)
  • To lower the attachment point, squeeze the control A and slide downwards
  • To raise the attachment point, slide the control A upwards
At the Rear

The rear seats each have a three-point seat belt with force limiter and, for outer seats, an effort limiter.

Fastening / Unfastening
  • Pull the strap and insert the tongue in the buckle
  • Check fastening by pulling the strap
  • Press the red button to unfasten and guide the belt as it reels in
  • On outer seat belts, raise the bar to the top of the backrest to prevent the tongue from hitting the side trim
Warning Lamp

From ~12 mph (20 km/h), if rear passengers are unfastened, a warning lamp flashes for 2 minutes with an audible signal. Afterward, it remains on until seat belts are fastened.

Advice / Recommendations for Children
  • Use a suitable child seat for passengers under 12 years or shorter than 1.5 meters
  • Never secure more than one person with a single belt
  • Never allow a child to travel on your lap
  • Ensure the seat belt is tightened, not twisted, and restrains only one person
  • Do not use belts showing cuts or fraying, or belts that have been modified
  • Have seat belts checked regularly by a PEUGEOT dealer or qualified workshop
  • Clean straps with soapy water or textile cleaning products approved by PEUGEOT
  • Ensure correct positioning after folding/moving seats
In the Event of an Impact

Pretensioners may deploy before airbags. Deployment causes harmless smoke and a noise. Airbag warning lamp comes on. Following impact, have seat belts checked/replaced by a qualified workshop.

Always ensure all passengers fasten seat belts correctly before setting off. Seat belts have inertia reels for automatic length adjustment. Position lower strap on pelvis, upper strap on shoulder. Automatic locking engages in collision, emergency braking, or rollover; release by pulling firmly then allowing slight retraction.

Airbags

General Information

Airbags do not operate when ignition is off. Deployment produces harmless smoke and noise, which may cause minor temporary hearing loss. Impact detection zones: A. Front impact zone, B. Side impact zone.

Front Airbags

Deployment occurs in serious front impacts along the longitudinal centreline. The front airbag inflates between thorax/head and steering wheel (driver) or dashboard (passenger). Protects head and thorax, supplements seat belts. Only deploys once; second impact does not trigger again.

Electronic detectors analyse front and side impacts. Airbags deploy instantly in serious impacts, deflate quickly to allow visibility and exit. Minor or rear impacts may not trigger airbags; seat belts provide protection.

Deactivation / Reactivation

When ignition is on, airbag deactivation warning lamp illuminates. Deactivate passenger airbag when installing a rearward-facing child seat; reactivate after removal to ensure front passenger safety. If warning lamp appears, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or qualified workshop.
