Peugeot 208 2016-2022 Lateral Airbags

Lateral Airbags

Deployment

A lateral airbag deploys unilaterally in the event of a serious side impact to all or part of the side impact zone B, perpendicular to the longitudinal centreline and directed from outside to inside. It inflates between the hip and shoulder of the front occupant and the corresponding door trim panel, protecting the chest.

Each lateral airbag is fitted in the seat backrest frame on the door side.

Impact Detection Zones
  • A. Front impact zone
  • B. Side impact zone

Curtain Airbags

This system improves protection of driver and passengers (except rear centre passenger) in serious side impacts, limiting head injury. Curtain airbags are built into the pillars and upper passenger compartment area. Minor side impacts or rollovers may not deploy the airbags. Rear or front collisions do not deploy curtain airbags.

Deployment

Curtain airbags deploy simultaneously with the corresponding lateral airbag in serious side impacts, inflating between occupants and the windows. If the warning lamp illuminates, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or qualified workshop.

Safety Instructions
  • Sit in a normal upright position
  • Wear a correctly adjusted seat belt
  • Do not place objects, pets, or children between occupants and airbags
  • Never modify the vehicle around airbag areas
  • After an accident, have airbag systems checked by a qualified workshop
  • Even with precautions, risk of minor burns or injuries exists during deployment
Lateral Airbags Use

Use only approved seat covers compatible with lateral airbags. Do not attach anything to seat backs or sit closer to the door than necessary.

Front Airbags

Do not rest hands on the steering wheel centre or place feet on dashboard. Avoid smoking. Never remove, pierce, or hit the steering wheel/dashboard. Do not attach anything to steering wheel or dashboard.

Curtain Airbags

Do not fix or attach anything to the roof. Do not remove grab handles, as they help secure curtain airbags.

General Points

  • Children under 12 or under 1.5 meters must use approved child seats with seat belts or ISOFIX mountings
  • Safest seats for children are the rear seats
