Peugeot 208 2016-2022 Removing a Wheel

Removing a Wheel

Parking the Vehicle

Immobilise the vehicle where it does not block traffic. The ground must be level, stable and not slippery.

  • Apply the parking brake.
  • Switch off the ignition.
  • With a manual gearbox, engage first gear to block the wheels.
  • With an electronic gearbox, place the lever in position R to block the wheels.
  • With an automatic gearbox, place the lever in position P to block the wheels.
  • Check that the parking brake warning lamps in the instrument panel come on.
  • The occupants must get out of the vehicle and wait where they are safe.
Never go underneath a vehicle raised using a jack; use an axle stand.
  • Remove the bolt cover from each bolt using tool 3 (according to equipment).
  • Fit the security socket 4 on the wheelbrace 1 to slacken the security bolt (if fitted).
  • Slacken the other bolts using the wheelbrace 1 only.
Never use:
  • The jack for any other purpose than raising the vehicle.
  • A jack other than the one provided by the manufacturer.

List of Operations

  • Remove the bolts and store them in a clean place.
  • Remove the wheel.
  • Extend the jack 2 until it comes into contact with the jacking point A or B. The contact area on the vehicle must be correctly inserted into the central part of the jack head.
Ensure that the jack is stable on a surface that is not slippery or loose and positioned only at the jacking point A or B under the vehicle. The contact area must be well centred on the head of the jack. Otherwise there is a risk of damage to the vehicle or the jack slipping – risk of injury.
  • Raise the vehicle until there is sufficient space between the wheel and the ground to fit the spare wheel easily.

Fitting a Wheel

Fitting the Spare Wheel

If your vehicle is fitted with alloy wheels, when tightening the bolts during refitting it is normal to notice that the washers do not come into contact with the spare wheel. The wheel is secured by the conical shoulder of each bolt.

When refitting the alloy wheel, ensure that the wheel bolt washers are clean and in good condition.

List of Operations

  • Put the wheel in place on the hub.
  • Screw in the bolts fully by hand.
  • Pre-tighten the security bolt using the wheelbrace 1 fitted with the security socket 4 (if fitted).
  • Pre-tighten the other bolts using the wheelbrace 1.
  • Lower the vehicle fully.
  • Fold the jack 2 and detach it.
  • Tighten the security bolt using the wheelbrace 1 with the security socket 4.
  • Tighten the other bolts using the wheelbrace 1.
  • Refit the bolt covers (according to equipment).
  • Store the tools in the box.

After Changing a Wheel

  • To store the punctured wheel correctly in the boot, first remove the central cover.
  • If the vehicle has a standard 15-inch spare wheel, do not exceed 50 mph (80 km/h).
  • If the vehicle has 16 or 17-inch wheels, use the space-saver spare wheel and do not exceed 50 mph (80 km/h).
  • Have the tightening of the bolts and the spare wheel pressure checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.
  • Have the punctured tyre repaired and the wheel refitted as soon as possible.

Changing a Bulb

Front Lamps

A. Model with Light Guide

In some weather conditions (low temperature or humidity), misting on the inside of the headlamp glass is normal and disappears after the lamps have been on for a few minutes.

The headlamps have polycarbonate lenses with a protective coating:

  • Do not clean them using a dry or abrasive cloth.
  • Do not use detergent or solvent products.
  • Use a sponge and soapy water or a pH neutral product.
  • When using a high-pressure washer, do not keep the lance directed at the lamps for too long to avoid damaging the coating and seals.
B. Model without Light Guide
  • Main beam headlamps (H7-55W)
  • Dipped beam headlamps (H7-55W)
  • Daytime running lamps / sidelamps (LEDs or W5-5W depending on model)
  • Direction indicators (PWY-24W)
  • Front foglamps – directional according to version (H11-55W)
Changing a bulb should only be done after the headlamp has been switched off for several minutes (risk of serious burns).
  • Do not touch the bulb directly with your fingers; use a lint-free cloth.
  • Only use anti-ultraviolet (UV) type bulbs to avoid damaging the headlamp.
  • Always replace a failed bulb with a new bulb of the same type and specification.

Amber coloured bulbs, such as direction indicators, must be replaced with bulbs of identical specifications and colour.

Rapid flashing of the direction indicator warning lamp indicates failure of a bulb on that side.

Changing Direction Indicator Bulbs

  • Turn the bulb holder a quarter turn and remove it.
  • Pull out the bulb and replace it.
  • Reassemble by carrying out the steps in reverse order.
C. GTi Model
  • Main beam headlamps (H7-55W)
  • Dipped beam headlamps (H7-55W)
  • Daytime running lamps / sidelamps (LEDs)
  • Direction indicators (LEDs)
  • Front foglamps (H11-55W)

Changing Main Beam Headlamp Bulbs

  • Disconnect the main headlamp connector.
  • Remove the protective cover by pulling on the tab.
  • Disconnect the bulb connector.
  • Pull out the bulb and replace it.

Changing Dipped Beam Headlamp Bulbs

  • Remove the protective cover by pulling on the tab.
  • Disconnect the bulb connector.
  • Spread the spring to release the bulb (model A).
  • Extract the bulb and replace it.

Reassemble in reverse order, positioning the alignment lug at the correct position.

Changing Daytime Running Lamp / Sidelamp Bulbs

  • Turn the bulb holder a quarter turn and pull it out.
  • Pull out the bulb and replace it.
  • Reassemble in reverse order.
