Seatbelt System Overview

The seatbelt system consists of:

  • Lap and shoulder seatbelts
  • Automatic locking shoulder belt (except driver seat)
  • Height adjusters at front outer seats
  • Pretensioners at front and rear outer seats
  • Seatbelt warning light and chime
  • Crash sensors with readiness indicator

Seatbelt pretensioners tighten the belt during frontal, side, or rollover crashes to reduce occupant movement.

Fastening and Unfastening Seatbelts

All seatbelts are three-point lap and shoulder belts.

  1. Pull the belt out steadily.
  2. Insert the tongue into the buckle.
  3. Pull tight to remove slack.

To unfasten:

  1. Press the red buckle button.
  2. Guide the belt back smoothly.

Third row center seatbelt retracts from the roof and uses a dual-tongue buckle system.

Sensitive Locking Mode

Allows movement adjustment but locks during sudden braking, sharp turns, or impact.

  • Locks if belt pulled too quickly
  • Slowly feed belt back if locked
  • Adjust rear seat position if needed

Automatic Locking Mode

Used when installing child restraints.

  1. Fasten belt.
  2. Pull entire shoulder belt out.
  3. Allow belt to retract until clicking is heard.

To disengage: unbuckle and fully retract belt.

Seatbelt Use During Pregnancy

WARNING: Keep seat upright. Lap belt low across hips. Shoulder belt across chest.

Pregnant occupants should wear belts snugly below the abdomen.

Adjusting Seatbelt Height

Adjust so belt rests across the middle of the shoulder.
  1. Press adjuster button.
  2. Slide to proper height.
  3. Release and confirm lock.

Seatbelt Reminder System

Provides visual and audible warnings if belts are not fastened.

System is designed to improve safety — disabling is not recommended.
