BRAKE PRECAUTIONS
Wet brakes result in reduced braking efficiency. Gently press the brake pedal a few times
when leaving a car wash or driving from standing water to dry the brakes.
Note: Depending on regional regulations, brake lamps and hazard lights may flash
during heavy braking.
ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM
System Limitations
- Driving too closely to another vehicle.
- Hydroplaning conditions.
- Taking corners too fast.
- Poor road surfaces.
Note: Brake pedal pulsing during ABS activation is normal. Maintain pressure.
BRAKE OVER ACCELERATOR
If the accelerator becomes stuck, apply firm brake pressure to slow the vehicle.
Shift to park (P), switch the engine off and apply the parking brake. Inspect the pedal
for obstruction. If the issue persists, tow the vehicle for service.
CHECKING BRAKE FLUID
WARNING: Only use recommended brake fluid from a sealed container.
Incorrect or contaminated fluid can cause brake failure and serious injury.
- Park on a level surface.
- Check fluid level between MIN and MAX marks.
Note: Keep the reservoir sealed unless adding fluid.
BRAKES – WARNING LAMPS
Driving with brake warning lamps illuminated may reduce braking performance.
Have the system inspected immediately.
- ABS lamp — malfunction, normal braking remains.
- Brake lamp — parking brake engaged, low fluid, or system fault.
BRAKES – FAQ
Brake Noise
Occasional noise is normal. Continuous grinding or squealing indicates wear.
Electric Motor Sound
Normal operation of electronic brake booster or parking brake.
ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE
Applying the Brake
Always apply parking brake, shift to park, and switch ignition off before exiting vehicle.
- Pull the console switch upward.
The red indicator flashes then stays lit when applied.
Emergency Use
Pull and hold the switch to slow or stop the vehicle. Release to stop braking.
Use only in emergencies.
Manual Release
- Switch ignition on.
- Press brake pedal.
- Push switch down.
Automatic Release
- Close driver door.
- Shift into gear.
- Accelerate normally.
ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE WARNINGS
- Audible alert sounds if driving with brake engaged.
- Battery failure prevents operation — jump start required.
System Messages
- Brake not applied/released fully.
- Service required.
- Maintenance mode active.
REVERSE BRAKE ASSIST
Helps prevent collisions while reversing by detecting obstacles and applying brakes.
You remain responsible for vehicle control at all times.
Precautions
- Weather or accessories may affect performance.
- System may not detect small or moving objects.
- Trailer connection may disable system.
Switching On/Off
- Touchscreen → Features → Driver Assistance.
- Toggle Reverse Brake Assist.
Override
Firm accelerator input overrides braking.
Indicators
Message and warning icon appear when braking activates.
Troubleshooting
- Clean sensors and cameras.
- Ensure related systems are enabled.
- Service vehicle if faults persist.
HILL START ASSIST
Temporarily holds brakes on slopes, allowing smoother acceleration.
How It Works
Vehicle remains stationary briefly after brake release.
Precautions
Hill start assist does not replace the parking brake.
- Driver must remain in control.
- System disables during malfunction.
Troubleshooting
- Service required if unavailable message appears.
