FUEL AND REFUELING — PRECAUTIONS

WARNING: Fuels can cause serious injury or death if misused or mishandled.
WARNING: Fuel may contain benzene, which is a cancer-causing agent.
WARNING: Read and follow all instructions on the pump island.
WARNING: Always shut the engine off when refueling. Never allow sparks or open flames near the filler valve. Do not smoke or use a cell phone. Avoid inhaling fuel vapors.
Refueling Guidelines
  • Extinguish smoking materials and open flames.
  • Switch the engine off before refueling.
  • Fuel is toxic if swallowed — seek immediate medical help.
  • Avoid inhaling vapors — prolonged exposure can cause illness.
  • If fuel contacts eyes, flush with water for 15 minutes and seek medical care.
  • If fuel contacts skin, wash thoroughly and remove contaminated clothing.
  • Use caution if taking medications such as disulfiram — seek medical help if reactions occur.

FUEL QUALITY

Selecting the Correct Fuel

Use regular unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Premium fuel (91+) is recommended for best performance, especially under heavy load or hot weather.

Light knocking can be normal. Heavy knocking with correct fuel requires dealer inspection.

Top Tier detergent gasoline is recommended to minimize deposits and maintain performance.

Do Not Use
  • Diesel fuel
  • Kerosene or paraffin fuels
  • Fuel containing more than 15% ethanol or E85
  • Methanol fuels
  • Metallic additive fuels
  • Leaded fuel

Using incorrect fuel can damage the engine and emission system and may void warranty coverage.

LOCATING THE FUEL FILLER FUNNEL

The fuel filler funnel is located under the luggage compartment floor covering.

FILLING A PORTABLE FUEL CONTAINER

WARNING: Static electricity during fueling can ignite fuel vapors.
  • Use approved containers only.
  • Place container on the ground when filling.
  • Do not fill containers inside the vehicle.
  • Keep nozzle in contact with container.
  • Do not wedge nozzle lever open.

USING A FUEL CONTAINER

WARNING: Do not insert aftermarket funnels — system damage may occur.
WARNING: Do not pry open filler valve.
WARNING: Dispose of fuel properly through authorized facilities.
Fueling from a Container
  1. Open the fuel filler door.
  2. Insert the supplied funnel fully.
  3. Add fuel.
  4. Remove funnel.
  5. Close filler door.
  6. Clean/store funnel.

Minimum 1.3 gal (5 L) required after running out of fuel. Ignition cycling may be needed to prime the system.
