Opening and Closing - Vehicle Features and Options

This chapter describes standard, country-specific, and optional features offered with the series. Some features may not be available depending on options or country version. Safety-related functions and systems must always be used according to applicable laws.

Remote Control - General Information

The vehicle comes with two remote controls with integrated keys. Each remote has a replaceable battery (refer to page 40). Key functions depend on optional features and country version (settings, page 48). Personal settings are stored for each remote control (Personal Profile, page 46). Remote controls also store service data (page 231).

WARNING: People or animals can lock themselves inside the vehicle. Always take the remote control with you to avoid risk of injury. Unlocking from the inside requires special knowledge. Never leave children or animals unattended.

Unlocking

Press the unlock button on the remote control. Depending on settings, this unlocks:

  • Driver's door and fuel filler flap (press again to unlock all doors, tailgate, and fuel filler flap)

Additional functions executed:

  • Driver profile settings applied
  • Interior and courtesy lights switched on (if not manually off)
  • Welcome lights switched on (if activated)
  • Alarm system switched off
Convenient Opening

Press and hold the unlock button after unlocking to open windows and glass sunroof. Release button to stop.

Locking
  1. Close the driver's door.
  2. Press lock button: all doors, tailgate, fuel filler flap locked; alarm system switched on.
  3. Press and hold lock button near vehicle: exterior mirrors fold in. Engine/ignition must be off for horn not to honk twice.
WARNING: With convenient closing, body parts can be jammed. Ensure area is clear during operation.
Switch on Interior and Courtesy Lights

Press button on remote with vehicle locked. Not available if interior lights manually off.

Tailgate

General information: Do not place remote control in cargo area to avoid locking it inside. Tailgate swings back and up—ensure area is clear to avoid damage.

WARNING: Body parts can be jammed during tailgate operation.

Press and hold tailgate button on remote for ~1 second to unlock and swing upward.

Panic Mode
  • Press and hold alarm button on remote ≥3 seconds, or
  • Press alarm button three times quickly

To switch off: press any button.

Replacing the Battery
  1. Remove integrated key from remote (page 42)
  2. Slide key into opening and raise cover to access battery compartment
  3. Remove old battery using pointed object, insert CR 2032 battery with positive side up
  4. Replace lid and cover, reinsert key into remote until engaged

Dispose old batteries via dealer service center or collection point.

Additional Remote Controls

Available from dealer service center or qualified repair shop.

Loss of Remote Controls

A lost remote can be blocked and replaced by a dealer or qualified service center.

Malfunction

Check Control message may display. Remote detection can fail due to:

  • Discharged battery (replace, page 40)
  • Interference from radio transmission towers or high-power equipment
  • Metal objects shielding remote
  • Electronic devices near remote
  • Charging mobile devices nearby

If malfunction occurs, use integrated key to lock/unlock (page 42).

Starting Engine via Emergency Detection
  1. Hold remote against marked area on steering column
  2. If detected, start engine within 10 seconds
  3. If not detected, slightly reposition remote and repeat
Integrated Key

Driver's door can be locked/unlocked without remote using integrated key.

WARNING: Unlocking from inside requires special knowledge. Never lock vehicle with people inside in extreme temperatures.

Removing: Press button, pull out integrated key.

Locking/Unlocking via Door Lock: Remove lid, insert key, and turn to lock/unlock. Other doors must be locked/unlocked from inside.

Alarm System: Triggered when door opened via door lock. Stop by unlocking with remote or starting ignition via emergency detection.

Buttons for the Central Locking System

In severe accidents, vehicle locking/unlocking may be affected. Use remote control for normal operation.
