Functional Requirements
Speed Range
The system is best used on well-constructed roads.
- Functional at speeds beginning at approx. 20 mph / 30 km/h
- Maximum speed that can be set: 85 mph / 140 km/h
- Active cruise control pauses below 20 mph / 30 km/h and does not brake to a stop
Switching On/Off and Interrupting Cruise Control
Switching On
- Press button on the steering wheel
- Instrument cluster lights up; current speed is adopted as desired speed and displayed
- Cruise control maintains the set speed
- DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) is switched on if necessary
Switching Off
- Press button on the steering wheel
- Displays go out; stored desired speed is deleted
Interrupting Manually
Press the button on the steering wheel.
Interrupting Automatically
The system is interrupted automatically in these situations:
- Driver applies brakes
- Manual transmission: clutch pedal depressed for a few seconds or released while no gear engaged
- Selector lever in N
- DTC activated or DSC deactivated/intervenes
- Camera detection impaired (soiling, heavy precipitation, sun glare)
- Vehicle in front decelerates below approx. 20 mph / 30 km/h
Setting the Speed
Maintaining / Storing Speed
Press + or - in interrupted state to store the current speed as desired speed. Displayed on the symbol. DSC switches on if necessary.
Changing the Speed
- + or - button: each press changes desired speed by approx. 1 mph / 1 km/h
- Press past resistance point: changes speed by up to 5 mph / 10 km/h
- Hold down button: repeats action
Adjusting Distance
Warning: The system does not relieve personal responsibility. Braking may be late. Maintain safe distance according to traffic and weather.
- Reduce distance: press button repeatedly until desired distance is set (displayed briefly)
- Increase distance: press button repeatedly until desired distance is set (displayed briefly)
Continuing Cruise Control
An interrupted cruise control can be continued by calling up the stored speed. Ensure difference between current speed and stored speed is not too large to avoid unintentional braking/acceleration.
The stored speed is deleted if system or ignition is switched off.
Calling Up Stored Speed and Distance
Press button with system interrupted; cruise control continues with stored values. Selected distance briefly displayed in Info Display.
Switching Distance Control On/Off
Warning: The system does not react to traffic ahead but maintains stored speed. Adjust speed to traffic and brake as needed.
- Switch distance control off: press and hold button (indicator lights up)
- Switch back on: press one of the buttons briefly; Check Control message displayed
Displays in Instrument Cluster
- Desired speed displayed in Info Display
- Green: system active; orange: system interrupted; no display: system off
- Distance to vehicle ahead briefly displayed in left portion
Distance Display
- Distance 1–4: set automatically when system switched on
- Detected vehicle: symbol lights orange
- Indicator/warning lights: flashes orange/red with acoustic signal for evasive maneuvers
Displays in Head-up Display
Active Cruise Control info can also appear in the Head-up Display.
System Limits
Detection Range
Detection and automatic braking capacity are limited. Two-wheeled vehicles may not be detected.
Deceleration
System does not decelerate for:
- Pedestrians, cyclists, or similarly slow road users
- Red traffic lights, cross traffic, oncoming traffic
- Unlit or non-working lights at night
Swerving Vehicles
Vehicles swerving into your lane may not be detected immediately. System may not restore selected distance automatically in certain situations.
Cornering
System slightly reduces speed in curves if desired speed is too high. Tight curves may cause late detection of vehicles in front. System may briefly report vehicles in next lane due to road bend.
Weather
Poor recognition or short interruptions may occur under:
- Wet conditions
- Snowfall
- Slush
- Fog
- Glare
Engine Power
Desired speed may not be maintained uphill if engine power is insufficient.
Malfunction
Check Control message displayed if system fails or is deactivated. May not function fully if:
- Objects not detected
- Heavy fog, wet conditions, or snowfall
- Tight curves
- Dirty or covered windshield/camera
- Bright lights ahead
- First 20 seconds after engine start via Start/Stop
- During camera calibration immediately after delivery
Cruise Control
Concept
Desired speed can be set using steering wheel buttons. System maintains speed, accelerates and brakes automatically as needed. Functional above approx. 20 mph / 30 km/h.
Warning: System does not relieve personal responsibility. Cannot react to all traffic situations. Adjust driving and actively intervene.
Warning: Increased risk in winding roads, heavy traffic, slippery roads, fog, snow, wet, or loose surfaces. Use only when constant speed is possible.
Overview: Buttons on Steering Wheel
| Button |
Function |
| Cruise control on/off | Activate or deactivate cruise control |
| Store speed | Stores current speed as desired speed |
| Pause cruise control | Interrupts cruise control |
| Continue cruise control | Resumes stored speed |
| Increase speed | Raises desired speed |
| Reduce speed | Lowers desired speed |
PDC (Park Distance Control)
PDC assists when parking. Approaching objects in rear (or front, if available) is reported via sensors.
