Alfa Romeo GIULIA

Turning off Dynamic Mode

To deactivate the Dynamic mode, move the selector to "n" (Normal mode).

"Normal" Mode

Activation

Rotate the selector to "n"; displays light up in blue Fig. 161. Engine and gearbox respond normally. The "Performance" page shows parameters linked to driving efficiency Fig. 162.

Turning off

To deactivate Normal mode, move the selector to another mode ("d" or "a").

"Advanced Efficiency" Mode

Activation

Rotate the selector to "a"; displays light up green Fig. 163.

  • ESC and ASR thresholds ensure safety on low-grip roads
  • Electronic Q2 system deactivated
  • Reduced engine performance
  • ECO shifting strategy applied

The "Performance" page shows acceleration, deceleration, and gear shift parameters Fig. 164.

Turning off

To deactivate Advanced Efficiency mode, move the selector to "n" (Normal).

Important Notes

  • Selector always starts in Normal mode after engine start
  • Previously selected Race mode is not retained; system reactivates in Dynamic mode

"RACE" Mode (if provided)

Activation

Rotate the selector to "Race"; displays light up yellow Fig. 165. Engine and gearbox adopt sports mapping.

  • Warning: Activate only on race tracks
  • Accelerator sensitivity increases; driving less comfortable
  • Performance screen shows longitudinal/lateral accelerations; lateral and longitudinal peaks displayed Fig. 166
  • Warning: If brakes overheated, allow system to cool before using brakes

Turning off

Move the selector to "Race" again; system resets to "d" mode.

Alfa Active Suspension (AAS)

Electronic suspension management optimizes vehicle performance. Monitors damping via actuators on each shock absorber, adjusting calibration based on road and dynamic conditions. Driver can choose between sporty or comfortable calibration using button Fig. 167.

Start & Stop Evo

Automatically stops engine when stationary, restarts when driver moves off. Improves efficiency and reduces emissions and noise.

  • Warning: When engine stops, power steering disabled

Operating Mode

Stopping the engine

With car stationary and brake pressed, engine stops if gear lever not in R. Disabled on uphill stops to allow Hill Start Assist. Engine stops after ~6.2 mph (10 km/h). Symbol lights on display.

Restarting the engine

Release brake pedal, or slightly turn steering wheel (if provided). In automatic D mode, engine restarts by shifting to R (petrol versions only) or using AutoStick (+/-).

Manual Activation / Deactivation

Press the button on the control panel left of steering wheel Fig. 168.

  • Activation: symbol lights on instrument panel; LED on button off
  • Deactivation: message displayed; LED off
  • Warning: System activates automatically at engine start regardless of previous state

Missed Engine Stopping Conditions

System does not stop engine if:

  • Engine still cold or outside temperature very low
  • Battery insufficiently charged
  • Diesel DPF regeneration in progress
  • Driver door open or seat belt not fastened
  • Reverse gear engaged
  • Automatic climate control not at required thermal level or MAX-DEF active
  • Initial system use
  • Steering wheel turned from straight position

Engine Restarting Conditions

Engine restarts automatically if:

  • Battery sufficiently charged
  • Brake vacuum sufficient
  • Vehicle moving (gradient)
  • Start & Stop Evo stopped engine for >3 min
  • Automatic climate control adjusts thermal comfort
  • Gear engaged with clutch fully pressed (manual)

Safety Functions

If engine stopped via Start & Stop Evo, releasing seat belt, opening doors, or bonnet requires ignition device to restart. Indicated by buzzer and message.

"Energy Saving" Function

If driver does not act for >3 min after auto restart, engine stops completely; restart only via ignition device. Can be deactivated to keep engine running.

Irregular Operation

If malfunction occurs, system is deactivated. See "Warning lights and messages" for failure indications.

Car Inactivity

If vehicle inactive or battery replaced, disconnect battery sensor:

  1. Extract connector 3 from socket 1
  2. Do not disconnect sensor incorrectly

Warning: After setting starter switch to STOP and closing driver door, wait 1 minute before disconnecting electrical supply. Reconnect only with ignition in STOP and door closed.

Label warning applied on front end of bonnet Fig. 170.

Warning: Replace battery via Alfa Romeo Dealership with same type (HEAVY DUTY).

Important: Start & Stop system can be deactivated to allow continuous climate control.

Speed Limiter

Limits car speed to values set by driver. Max speed can be set stationary or in motion; min 20 mph (30 km/h). Vehicle speed depends on accelerator pressure until limit reached. Can operate concurrently with Cruise Control; in RACE mode, remains active.

Activating the Device

Use Connect system: Driver Assistance → Comfort. Activation indicated by green symbol with last set speed Fig. 171.
