Alfa Romeo GIULIA

AdBlue® Level Display

The level of AdBlue® inside the tank can be viewed on the Connect system display (Fig. 226).

  1. Activate the Vehicle Information function by pressing the appropriate widget on the Connect display.
  2. Press the graphic button 1: the AdBlue® level will appear on the display.

If the AdBlue® level is not in reserve, OK will appear. If insufficient, KO will appear (Fig. 226).

Operations After Refilling

  1. Fit the cap back on the AdBlue® filler by turning clockwise (Fig. 222).
  2. Set ignition to ON (engine need not start) and wait for the instrument panel indication to switch off.
  3. If the tank was empty, wait 2 minutes before starting the engine.

Warning: If AdBlue® is spilled, clean thoroughly. Crystallized residue should be removed with a sponge and warm water.

Important: Do not exceed the maximum level. Freezing below -11 °C may damage the system. Avoid spills on painted or aluminum surfaces. Never pour AdBlue® into the diesel tank or add other fluids/additives. Non-conforming AdBlue® may cause warnings or system damage.

AdBlue® Storage

AdBlue® is stable with a long shelf life. Stored below 32°C, it lasts at least one year. Follow container instructions.

Fuels – Vehicle Compatibility

Check the fuel symbols inside the filler flap and match with the pump symbols.

Petrol Cars

  • E5: Unleaded petrol, up to 2.7% oxygen and 5% ethanol, EN228 compliant.
  • E10: Unleaded petrol, up to 3.7% oxygen and max 10% ethanol, EN228 compliant.

Diesel Cars

  • B7: Diesel, up to 7% FAME, EN590 compliant.
  • B10: Diesel, up to 10% FAME, EN16734 compliant.

Emergency Diesel Version Refuelling

  1. Open luggage compartment and take out adapter (Fig. 227).
  2. Open fuel flap (Fig. 223), remove closing cap, insert adapter.
  3. After refuelling, remove adapter, close cap and flap, return adapter to compartment.

Emergency Fuel Flap Opening

  1. Open tailgate and reach emergency opening cable (Fig. 228).
  2. Pull cord to unlock fuel flap.
  3. Open fuel flap.

Warning: Keep high-pressure jets at least 20 cm away. Use only supplied plugs. Avoid flames, cigarettes, and mobile phones near filler. Prolonged heating of AdBlue® above 50°C may produce ammonia vapours.

AdBlue® (UREA) Additive for Diesel Emissions

(2.2 JTD versions only)

  • AdBlue® injection and Selective Catalytic Reduction ensure emissions compliance, fuel efficiency, and performance.
  • Stored below 32°C, AdBlue® lasts at least a year. Automatic heating ensures correct operation below -11°C.
  • Warning: AdBlue® freezes below -11°C.

Suggestions for Driving – Saving Fuel

Car Maintenance

Follow the Service Schedule.

Tyres

Check pressures every 4 weeks; low pressure increases fuel consumption.

Unnecessary Loads

Avoid overloading luggage compartment; weight affects fuel and stability.

Electric Devices

Use electrical devices only as needed; high consumption can increase fuel use by up to 25% in urban cycle.

Climate Control System

Use standard ventilation when possible to save fuel.

Devices for Aerodynamic Control

Non-certified devices may increase air drag and consumption.

Driving Style

  • Start: Move off immediately, slowly; avoid high revs while stationary.
  • Unnecessary Actions: Avoid revving at lights or before stopping engine.
  • Gear Selection: Use high gear when possible; low gear for fast acceleration increases consumption.
  • Top Speed: Fuel use increases with speed; maintain constant speed.
  • Acceleration: Accelerate gradually; avoid maximum torque for efficiency.

Conditions of Use

  • Cold Starting: Frequent short trips increase fuel consumption (+15–30%) and emissions.
  • Traffic/Road Conditions: Heavy traffic, winding or rough roads increase consumption.
  • Stops in Traffic: Switch off engine during prolonged hold-ups.

Transporting Passengers

  • Warning: Never leave children in parked car during hot weather.
  • Warning: Never travel in internal load compartment.
  • Warning: Ensure all occupants wear seat belts and children use dedicated restraint systems.

Transporting Animals

Place animals in rear seat cages, restrained by seat belts. Improperly restrained animals may injure themselves or occupants during sudden braking or accidents.

Exhaust Gas

Exhaust emissions contain carbon monoxide. Avoid inhalation by:

  • Not running engine in closed spaces.
  • If luggage compartment is open, close windows, max fan speed, do not recirculate air.
  • If stationary in car with engine running, allow outside air to enter passenger compartment.

Maintain exhaust system to prevent leaks; contact Alfa Romeo Dealership if damaged or unusual noise is present.

Quadrifoglio Version – Performance

  • Peak power: 510 HP at 6500 rpm
  • Maximum torque: 441 lb-ft (61 kgm) at 2500 r
