Alfa Romeo GIULIA

Speed Limit Programming

The speed limit can be programmed on the Connect system. Access via main menu: Settings → Safety → Speed Limiter Set Speed. Use the Rotary Pad to adjust speed by 5 mph (5 km/h) from 20 mph (30 km/h) to 110 mph (180 km/h).

Exceeding the Programmed Speed

Fully depressing the accelerator allows exceeding the programmed speed. The device disables until speed drops below the set limit, then reactivates automatically.

Programmed Speed Icon Flashing

  • When the accelerator is fully depressed and the car exceeds programmed speed
  • Activating system after setting a limit below current speed
  • During sharp acceleration

Deactivating the Device

Deactivate via Connect system: Settings → Safety → Speed Limiter → Off. Device also automatically deactivates in case of system fault. Contact an Alfa Romeo Dealership if this occurs.

Temporary Signal Loss & System Failure

  • White symbol without speed lights up on display when signal is lost
  • Amber symbol lights up in case of system failure

Cruise Control

Electronically maintains car speed above 20 mph (30 km/h) without pressing the accelerator. Recommended for long, straight stretches on dry roads. Buttons located on left of steering wheel. Deactivates if multiple functions are operated simultaneously; reactivate using /CANC button.

Activating the Device

Press the Cruise Control button Fig. 172. White symbol lights up on instrument panel Fig. 173. Cannot be engaged in 1st or reverse gear; recommended in 3rd gear or higher.

Warning: Do not leave the device on when not in use due to risk of unintended acceleration.

Setting the Desired Speed

Reach desired speed, raise/lower the SET lever Fig. 174 and release to activate. Vehicle maintains speed automatically. Accelerator overrides temporarily; vehicle returns to set speed when released. Maintain constant speed on flat surface before setting.

Increasing / Decreasing Speed

Use SET lever to adjust:

  • Raise lever: increase speed. Hold for continuous increase; release to store new speed.
  • Lower lever: decrease speed. Hold for continuous decrease; release to store new speed.

Warning: Adjusts speed according to selected units (metric/imperial).

Use on Hilly Routes

Device may shift gears automatically to maintain speed. Slight speed variation is normal on gradients. Deactivate on steep slopes if necessary.

Recalling the Speed

In D mode, use RES lever Fig. 175 to recall previously set speed. In Autostick, accelerate close to desired speed first, then press RES.

Deactivating the Device

  • Light brake press
  • Electric parking brake activation or braking system operation
  • Stored speed deleted if engine off, on/off button pressed, or Cruise Control malfunction occurs

Active Cruise Control (ACC) (if provided)

Combines Cruise Control with distance control from vehicle ahead. Uses radar Fig. 176 and camera Fig. 177. Maintains speed and preset distance; automatically adjusts speed based on vehicle ahead.

  • If sensor detects no vehicle ahead: maintains fixed speed
  • If vehicle detected: system brakes or accelerates to keep distance

Important Notes & Limitations

  • Not guaranteed in fog, rain, snow, heavy traffic, or complex driving
  • May not function correctly on winding, icy, snowy, or steep roads
  • Deactivation advised if towing or when vehicle not aligned in lane

Activation / Deactivation

Device has four states: Enabled, Activated, Paused, Off. Press /CANC button to enable. White icon with dashes shows enabled; green icon with set speed shows activated. Cannot enable in RACE mode. Pressing /CANC pauses or deactivates device.

Setting the Desired Speed

Set speed from 30 km/h (19 mph) to 180 km/h (110 mph) using RES/SET lever Fig. 180. Accelerator overrides temporarily. Device returns to normal operation when accelerator released. Cannot activate if:

  • Brake pressed
  • Brakes overheated
  • Electric parking brake engaged
  • In P, R, or N gear
  • Engine speed above threshold
  • Vehicle speed outside settable range
  • ESC/ABS or stability systems operating
  • Automatic braking by Forward Collision Warning
  • Device failure
  • Engine off
  • Radar sensor obstructed (clean bumper area)

Warning: Device may not work correctly above max speed (180 km/h or 110 mph). Deactivate in such cases.

Changing the Speed

  • Increase: lift RES/SET lever 1 mph (1 km/h) per step; beyond resistance point, steps of 6 mph (10 km/h)
  • Decrease: lower RES/SET lever 1 mph (1 km/h) per step; beyond resistance point, steps of 6 mph (10 km/h)

Accelerator overrides temporarily. Braking system intervenes if needed. Device holds speed uphill/downhill; minor variations normal. Automatic transmission may downshift downhill or during acceleration. Device switches off if brakes overheat.

Accelerating When Overtaking

Device provides additional acceleration when overtaking at >43 mph (70 km/h) and direction indicator activated. Left-hand traffic: overtaking assist active on left lane (opposite logic in right-hand traffic).

Recalling the Speed

Move RES/SET lever up and release accelerator to recall previously stored speed. Only use if road and traffic conditions allow. Excessive or unsafe recall may cause accidents.

Setting Distance Between Cars

Distance adjustable to 1 (short) – 4 bars (max) Fig. 181. Time interval varies 1–2 seconds based on setting. Distance shown on display. Default: 4 bars. Adjust with button Fig. 182. Device automatically adapts speed to maintain distance.

"Stop and Go" Strategy

Maintains safe distance even when vehicle stops. Automatically restarts if car ahead moves within 2 seconds; otherwise use accelerator or RES/SET lever.

Deactivation

Device and set speed canceled when:

  • /CANC button pressed (on or paused)
  • Starter switch in STOP position
  • RACE mode activated

Device cancelled (speed & distance stored) when paused or certain conditions occur.

System Limited Operation Signal

Message shown on display if system operation limited (obstruction or fault). Clean sensor area Fig. 177. Contact Alfa Romeo Dealership if fault persists.

Precautions While Driving

  • Driver must maintain control at all times
  • Not recommended when towing a trailer
  • May not detect non-aligned or cutting-in vehicles, causing unexpected acceleration/braking
