Alfa Romeo GIULIA

Rear Back-Up Camera / Dynamic Gridlines

Description: The Rear Back-up Camera is located on the tailgate, near the opening button (Fig. 220).

Camera Activation/Deactivation

The function can be activated or deactivated via the Connect system menu: Driver Assistance → Comfort.

Activating the Device

After activating the camera, you can select:

  • Activate – Turns on the camera view on the Connect display whenever reverse gear is engaged (Fig. 221).
  • Cam Delay – Keeps the camera image displayed for a few seconds after reverse gear is disengaged, then returns to the previous screen.
  • Camera Guidelines – Shows gridlines on the display highlighting vehicle width and expected reversing path according to steering wheel position.

Symbols and Messages on the Display

A central broken line indicates the vehicle's center for parking maneuvers or tow hook alignment. Colored areas indicate distance from the rear:

Area Distance from rear of vehicle
Red0 – 1 ft (0 – 30 cm)
Yellow1 – 3.3 ft (30 cm – 1 m)
Green3.3 ft (1 m) or more

Messages on the Display

If the tailgate is lifted, the camera cannot detect obstacles. A warning message will appear on the instrument panel. Close the tailgate to resume normal operation.

Important Notes

  • Ice, snow, or mud on the camera can reduce sensitivity.
  • Ensure paint does not contact the camera during tailgate repainting.
  • Take care over obstacles above or below the camera’s operating range.
  • Parking and potentially dangerous maneuvers remain the driver’s responsibility. Always ensure no people or animals are in the area.
  • Keep the camera clean, free from dirt, mud, snow, or ice. Use clean water and vehicle shampoo if needed. Avoid dry, rough cloths and high-pressure or steam washers within 10 cm of the camera. Do not apply stickers to the camera.

Refuelling the Car

Petrol Engines

Before refuelling, ensure the correct fuel type. Stop the engine before refuelling. Use only unleaded petrol with octane (R.O.N.) ≥ 91 (EN228 specification).

  • For 2.9 V6 engines, premium unleaded petrol R.O.N. ≥ 98 is recommended for optimal performance.
  • Never introduce leaded petrol; this will damage the catalytic converter.
  • An inefficient catalytic converter increases harmful emissions.

Diesel Engines

Use only Diesel fuel for motor vehicles (EN590 specification). At low temperatures, diesel can thicken, affecting fuel supply. Different diesel types are distributed by season: summer, winter, and arctic. If unsuitable diesel is used, mix with specific additives before adding to the tank.

Refuelling Capacity

Top up twice after the first click of the fuel nozzle to ensure full tank. Further top-ups may cause fuel system faults.

Refuelling Procedure

Unlock the fuel flap via the central door locking system. Steps:

  1. Open flap (Fig. 222–223).
  2. Remove the fuel cap.
  3. Insert dispenser into filler and refuel.
  4. After refuelling, wait 10 seconds before removing the dispenser.
  5. Replace cap and close flap. Fuel type and compliance symbols are on the label inside the flap (Fig. 224).

Topping Up AdBlue® Diesel Emissions Additive (2.2 JTD versions)

Preliminary Conditions: AdBlue® freezes below 12.2 °F (-11 °C). If frozen, park in a heated environment until liquid before topping up.

  1. Park on level ground and switch off the engine.
  2. Open fuel flap (Fig. 225).
  3. Unscrew and remove the AdBlue® cap (blue) and stow it.

Refilling with Nozzles

  1. Insert the nozzle into the filler.
  2. Start refilling and stop at first automatic shut-off (tank full).
  3. Do not continue to refill to prevent spillage.

Refilling with Containers

  1. Check expiration date and read usage instructions on the label.
  2. If using systems that cannot be screwed in, fill no more than 5 liters.
  3. If using screwable containers, tank is full when container stops pouring.
