Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) — Air Bags & Child Safety

When a safety belt is worn properly, it greatly reduces the risk of injury — including for pregnant women. Correct belt positioning is essential for protection in a crash.

WARNING: Pregnant women must follow proper seat belt positioning and comply with local seat belt regulations.

Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) — Air Bags

This vehicle is equipped with advanced front air bags for the driver and front passenger to supplement seat belts. The driver air bag is located in the steering wheel hub marked “SRS AIRBAG”, while the passenger air bag is located in the dashboard marked “AIRBAG”.

  • Multistage inflation adapts to crash severity.
  • Seat position sensors adjust deployment force.
  • Seat belt buckle sensors influence inflation timing.
  • Supplemental Seat-Mounted Side Air Bags (SAB) protect torso areas.
  • Supplemental Side Curtain Air Bags (SABIC) protect head areas.
NOTE: After any collision, the vehicle should be inspected by an authorized service center.

Air Bag System Components

  • Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC)
  • Air bag warning indicator
  • Front and side air bags
  • Impact sensors
  • Seat belt pretensioners
  • Battery disconnect pyrotechnic device
WARNING: Air bags supplement — not replace — seat belts. Always buckle up.

Advanced Front Air Bag Operation

The ORC determines deployment timing and force based on impact data. Air bags may deploy even in underbody impacts or pothole strikes if severe enough.

CAUTION: Non-deployment does not indicate malfunction; deployment depends on crash characteristics.
WARNING:
  • Do not place objects on air bag covers.
  • Do not lean forward toward deployment zones.
  • Never place a rear-facing child seat in the front passenger seat.

Side Air Bag Protection

Seat-mounted and curtain air bags protect torso and head areas during side impacts and rollovers. Proper seating posture is essential.

WARNING: Keep clear of door and window air bag zones. Do not add accessories that obstruct deployment.

Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC)

The ORC monitors sensors and activates air bags, pretensioners, hazard lights, and battery disconnect when needed. A startup system check verifies readiness.

WARNING: If the air bag warning light stays on or returns, seek service immediately.

Air Bag Deployment Effects

  • Temporary skin irritation may occur.
  • Dust-like particles are normal and harmless.
  • Air bags deflate immediately after deployment.
CAUTION: Do not drive after air bag deployment — safety systems must be serviced.

Air Bag Maintenance

WARNING:
  • Never modify air bag components.
  • Only authorized technicians may perform repairs.
  • Electrical faults may disable protection systems.

Transport of Persons with Disability

Vehicles requiring air bag modification for disabled occupants must be serviced by authorized professionals.

WARNING: Air bag deactivation for adults with disabilities requires authorized consultation.

Event Data Recorder (EDR)

The EDR records crash-related data such as seat belt usage, speed, and pedal input to improve safety analysis. No personal identity information is stored.

Child Restraint Systems

All children must ride properly restrained according to age and size. Rear seating is safest.

WARNING: An unrestrained child can be seriously injured or killed in a collision.
Infants and Child Seats
  • Children should ride rear-facing until age two or seat limits are reached.
  • Use certified restraint systems appropriate for the child.
  • Follow manufacturer installation instructions carefully.
Proper child restraint use dramatically reduces injury risk.
