Seat Belt Safety and Operation

  • Rear passengers not wearing seat belts risk severe injury and endanger front occupants.
  • Air bags are designed to work with seat belts — not replace them.
  • Front air bags deploy only in certain frontal collisions of sufficient intensity.

Seat Belt for Rear Central Seat

This belt has two buckles and two latch plates, allowing it to be released from the seat.

  • Press the red button using the free latch plate to release the left buckle.
  • Allow the belt to retract fully behind the seatback.

To buckle:

  • Sit in the center seat and pull out belt A normally.
  • Insert shoulder latch plate into left buckle (B).
  • Pull out belt with right buckle (C).

WARNING: Proper restraint is only achieved when both buckles are fully engaged.

To release, press the red button on the right buckle.

Seat Belt Pretensioners

Pretensioners tighten belts during severe frontal impacts to improve occupant protection.

  • Work with all occupant restraint systems.
  • Triggered by the Occupant Restraint Controller.
  • Single-use pyrotechnic devices.
CAUTION: Exposure to heat, impact, or vibration may damage pretensioners.
WARNING: Never tamper with pretensioner components — authorized service only.

BeltAlert reminds occupants to fasten seat belts.

  • Activates when engine runs and seat belts are unfastened.
